You sacrificed the boxes for a wife?? That's crazy, there are many more potential wives out there than boxes!

laffer: I have Leisure Suit Larry in the same kind of box as your Quest for Glory collection is. I've not seen it anywhere, but I bought it very cheap when I found it. Maybe I'll take pictures of my games tomorrow.

I remember the reason why I got a PC in the first place was so I could play the Sierra adventure games.. as you probably know, they're horribly awful on the Amiga

That's not true, at least not for some of 'em. I might agree with you about the SCI1 ones that only use 32 colours instead of 256 as in the PC versions. But back in the day when I only had the monophonic PC speaker for the PC it was way cool to hear the polyphonic sound in the AGI games. Also, quite a few SCI0 games on the Amiga had sound fx that were EXCLUSIVE to the Amiga versions (unless you had an MT-32 for the PC I might add in most cases). There is a rare version of SQ3 for PC with the famous sound fx but apart from that the Amiga version was the way to go. King's Quest 4 had sound fx that from memory weren't even included in the MT-32 soundtrack for the PC.

So I would definitely not go as far as saying the Sierra games were useless for Amiga. Besides, Amiga was the platform on which I played my very first Sierra games!! The first one being Police Quest 1 and BOY did it blow me away! Shame they didn't make the AGI versions even better for the Amiga though... The Apple IIgs AGI is the latest version of the interpreter and it's superior in every way to the other versions... Why didn't they release this interpreter for the Amiga? I mean, I can understand why it wasn't released for the PC... But the Amiga already had built in sound capacity that could've handled it from the start...

Yes the sound was a little better in some of the earlier Sierra games for Amiga. But they were slower and for being on the Amiga they had horrible graphics (the Amiga was a lot better than the PC back then!).

But I agree the older ones are pretty similar and even has better sound on the Amiga in some cases. However, all games after they started using 256 colors are horrible on the Amiga.

Now Lucasarts on the other hand.. they knew how a game should be ported!

Oh yes I agree 100% with that

And yes Sierra were a tad lazy graphicswise really. The Amiga really was a lot better than that... Funny though, Sierra games were always considered the more demanding of games... I remember how frustrating it was when I had an A500 with just 512k of RAM and I couldn't afford an expansion (hey, I was just a kid back then!) because many Sierra titles required 1 MB. But I do recall that there were versions that worked with only 512k... I played SQ3, LSL3 and PQ2 among others - all of which I seem to recall having tried versions that refused to work with just 512k (and the boxes usually say they require 1 MB). Boy those were the days Today 1 GB of RAM in my PeeCee doesn't seem to be enough for anything Except emulating the good old Amiga

Did you ever try to play Space Quest IV without a harddrive or an extra floppy drive on an A500 with 1 meg RAM? I still have nightmares about that! Try it in an emulator and see haha

No, but I did read in magazines about the torture those poor floppies had to go through due to all the disk swapping. Many of my Sierra savedisks ended up with R/W errors... That was kinda frustrating.

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that you had to switch floppies 20-30 times before the game would even start!

Space Quest 1-3, King's Quest 1-4, Police Quest 1-2, Leisure Suit Larry 1-3. All these were excellent on the Amiga. However, then they started using the horribly slow icon driven interface, and they did horrible work on the game.

Although King's Quest VI was a VERY good port. The graphics looked stunning, on an Amiga 500!
