So installed icaros desktop light 2.2.8 on virtual box/windows7.
V impressive, no doubt about it, but just wondering about stability.
For some reason it keeps 'losing' DH0 (icons disappear, ENV: volume not found) when, for example, I try to save manual network configuration. So have to reboot.

Do you think would be due to virtual box (vdi) dynamic disk?
Will try a regular fixed size vdi or vhd see if makes difference.
Maybe these are known issues.
Would vmware be better ? Kinda need it in virtual box style to share files with pc etc etc

No I think it depends on the (VDI) dynamic disk, I have never had problems, I think there is some problem in the installation.

Thanks, using vmware player instead of virtual box seemed to resolve all issues.
Any video on how to share a folder from the host to AROS ? Using windows as host.

With VirtualBox AROS works great just do the right settings, I successfully tested my AROS One x86 on VirtualBox.

Regarding the sharing on VMWare seems not to be supported on AROS systems, you can still use Pendrive, MemoryCard or an ISO CD.

With VirtualBox instead you could share the HardFiles created by WinUAE

yes after more testing seems to be no difference whatsoever between vmware and vb.

Wasn't able to get shared folders from my windows7 host working in icaros desktop light vm but got samba shares (e.g. a share on nas drive) working ok. So good enough for now.
Disappearing drives is/was a known issue. See here: amiga.thewetmachine.net/
If you have the file 'smb-handler' from icaros 2.0.1 maybe put it up in zone if so kind.

Didn't try your Aros one yet but will try it at some time.
I like icaros desktop light as it's light (v light), looks great, and has all the essential stuff out of box

What version are you looking for, I have old smb-handler v1.2 of 2012


My AROS differs from IcarOS in that it does not use Dopus5 Magellan as a Workbench replacement.

just the link above said 'solution: You must get the L:smb-handler from icaros 2.0.1.'

so if could copy the file on off chance you might have it installed somewhere. No major importance as was able to work around it.
But interesting to see if that file version fixed the crash and then disappearing volumes.

That version is no longer on the net, try to ask smb-handler from icaros 2.0.1 directly to its author is called "Paolone" and find him HERE.

Doh, spotted a note in the manual about a backup smb-handler in Storage/L. That one works fine. So all good.

Ps miraculous work to get Aros/Icaros that far to that level and working so well.
Handful of devs. With only their spare time. Amazing effort.
