External drive question

I tried to do the famous "Panasonic PC floppy" hack to my external drive but it didn't work alltough I did everything as explained, or so I think.

No I have a simple question:

Could I use this inside my external floppydrive:

http://www.vesalia.de/e_dd-drive-amiga.htm

Should it be modified something else than df0: and is there anyone that have tried this out??

iirc, simply setting it as ds1 instead of ds0 is not enough. it need some basic logic for some signals like motor_on, or something. thats why amiga external floppies always have few chips. you should do a search, its been extensively discussed here in past.

The drives themselves are set as DS0, the electronics in the external drive enclosure handle the drive select handling, and as orange said, the latching of the motor on signal..

There are various schematics for external floppy drives on Aminet, all illustrate more or less the same thing. Study those.

that oldfool had an external drive but the floppy drive had died in which case he would have the circuit and would just need to add the drive

@Old Fool: cosmicfrog is quite right, the Vesalia DD Amiga floppy drive, as supplied (for DF0:), will be a perfect replacement floppy drive unit for your external drive as long as the only fault is with the original floppy drive unit.

Oh! This was very good news! Thanks mates! Yes I have an external drive and the floppy drive inside the case is the dead one. I checked it works with another drive well (with another modified Panasonic drive). So nice to know you can just order new drives and stick them to the external drive case without any modifications!
