Curiosity - 44pin ide interfaces for the A1200?
Curiosity killed the cat, as they say.
For some time I've been running a unbufferd DIY ide interface. I don't really need it, but i made it so i HAD to use it. (Don't ask) Being unbufferd, it's not exactly blazing fast, infact it has obviues performance issues with 2 drives allready. So, lately I've been looking around to see if i could find a better solution, but it seams all the IDE interfaces available are based on the 40 pin configuration for 3.5" drives, and ATAPI devices? I could buy one, and mod a pair of cables for power and get em running with 44pin cables, but why then buy the interface to start with? Anyone know a 44->2x44 bufferd IDE interface for the A1200? I just might get one while i get a PS2 mouse adaptor thingy. B! |

Mr B
Have a look at amigakit.com, The Buffered IDE interface they sell has 1x 44pin Amiga input 1x 44Pin port 0 1x 40pin port 0 can only use 40 or 44 at a time 1x 40pin port 1 I'm not aware of any with port 0 & 1 as 44 pin connections, but will keep an eye out. This type of interface will not speed up the IDE it allows 4 device connection with suitable buffering to the A1200 MB. If you want a speed increase look at IDE-Express (IDEFix97 registered included & same port configuration as above) again from amigakit or the FAST-ATA which is 40pin only TC |

I cant find the device your speaking of, but IDEFIX Express does indeed have both sets of connectors, making it big and bulky, but should cover my needs. From just looking at the picture, it might even be possible to cut of the 2x40 pin connectors if space turns out to be an issue.
If anyone know of a different device matching my wishes, do respond. Otherways i might end up getting the IDEFIX Express. I dunno if that necessary is a bad thing... B! |

The basic Interface I described is on the link below
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...9e982c6f960f46 It basically the same as the Express without the Gayle adapter for the extra speed or any software. Regards TC |

That interface is cheap & cheerfull & does the job, Personally the Express is really nice as you get the connection options & that extra speed boost too, plus a fully registered copy of IDEFix97 which all in all is great value, I can also highly recomend Matthew at amigakit his service & tech support is a big asset to the Amiga community. Let us know how you get on & if you need further help TC |

Buffered vs. unbuffered doesn't make any difference in the speed, a buffered interface allows you to use longer cables without the risk of burning your gayle.
