Amiga 1200 Boot after HD Format
I recently formatted the hd on my Amiga 1200. Now the amiga wont reconise a single original disk in the disk drive, even the workbench 3.1 disk. I tried altering the boot sequence but dont really know what i 'm doing. If anybody could offer me some help it would be appreciated.
Specs: A1200 8mb Accelerator Board 170mb HD External Floppy Drive Thanks |

Thread moved to Hardware Problems.
There is a slight chance that your hard drive now has a boot prority HIGHER than that of your floppy drive. To check this enter the early-startup boot menu (by holding the two mouse buttons upon bootup), enter the part where you enable//disable drives and it should show the bootpri of each device. See if your Hd's is higher than DF0's |

The Boot Options are as follows:
it says enabled -df0 priority 5 ADOS trackdisk-0 enabled -CC0 priority 3 ADOS carddisk -0 enabled -HD0 priority 1 ADOS scsi -0 enabled -HD1 not bootable ADOS scsi -0 in select boot device it says DF0 CC0 HD0 (in that order) could anything on here be causing my Amiga 1200 not to be reading my disks, and i mean all the disks (originals as well as copies). Thanks |

Yeah, disconnect teh HD and see what happens. The priorities are right, hd0 is smaller than df0 so df0 should boot first.

If i dosconnect my hard disk will i be able to use it again at a later date? Will i will test some of the disks on my amiga 500 to see if they are not malfunctioning. One more thing, if the floppy drive has broken will i be able to get a replacement drive for it? thanks |

With the hard disk removed i get the A1200 booting to the insert disk screen, with the disk going into the drive.
I put a disk into the drive and nothing happens, i am going to try and crean the floppy disk drive and see what happens then. thanks again everybody |

Seems like your drive went bust, and you formatting the HD and then not having your floppy drive working is pure coincidence!

The man i purchased the amiga 1200 was kind enough to send a replacement. I was using the relacement for a few hours then all of a sudden that drive has become f*&ked as well. I rang the man up and he says that he will refund my money. He said that a disk can nacker the machine up, is possible? Also is there a way to convert a standard pc floppy drive into and amiga disk drive?
this has to be the most annoying computer experience ever. |

the only reason i no longer have/use my a1200 is cause i formatted after having backed everything up onto floppy to reinstall afterwards. after the formatt i realised i no longer had the workbench disks! - cant re install an a1200 hd put onto floppy by the wb programm with the boot disk of an a500! don't give up on em though - still wish i had the hassle free reliable use of a good home computer.

I've lately cheated and installed my Amiga hard drives in WinUAE.. Much nicer when you don't have to mess around with cd drivers, etc in the beginning.
Now I just install the OS, copy all the needed packages over in WinUAE and finalise the installation on the Amiga. :-) |
