Amiga Harddrive > PC
OK, treat me as a newbie (I don't want to fuck up, or ruin the hardware, lose software).
I want to take out the (ancient) HD out of my old A1200 (it even has moist on it), and connect it to my PC. I have AIAB installed. I need a step by step guide by someone who's done this before. If it is possible. Last edited by DeAdLy_cOoKiE; 28 June 2005 at 20:33. |

It is not as difficult as you might think.
1. get a 2.5"->3.5" adapter. This is probably the most difficult part 2. connect the adapter to the Amiga hdd and to an empty place on one of the PC's IDE cables. Connect the power connector of the adapter to a free power cord. 3. make sure the jumpers on all devices are set correctly. There can only be one master and one slave on one cable. If one device is alone on a cable, it should be master. 4. you might want to check if your BIOS does recognise the new hdd 5. boot up Windows. If Windows asks you to format the new hdd, do *not* do it ! 6. run WinUAE. Go to Configurations, click once on your favourite AIAB configuration and click on load. 7. go to Hard Drives and click on "Add Harddrive". Choose your Amiga HDD. 8. click on OK. If your Amiga HDD has a boot priority greater than 0, it might try to boot from it. In this case increase the boot priority of your AIAB HDD (double click the entry, there should be an option to change boot priority). Here is a picture of the needed adapter: Almost forgot: you need WinXP or 2000. 95, 98 and ME will *destroy* the Amiga data ! (WinUAE can repair it, though.) |

I believe the Amiga HD is 3.5".
I can connect a regular IDE cable to it at least, like I would connect my other PC HDs. |

Then you certainly don't need an adapter. But then you have to have an adapter in your A1200 because the A1200 has a 2.5" connector on the motherboard.
