WHD Load renaming Dat - needs a name

Right as you all know (and some ppl were against) myself, Cody and Antiriad have been busy renaming the WHDInstalls, so we can get rid of all the crap installs etc.. on our HD's.

Anyway Dat ver 0.1 is almost ready, we have a couple of things to tidy up and sort, but it's almost done.

One thing we do need is a name to separate it from Tosec so please vote in the above poll (Even if you disagree with this idea (Which Bert has given us his blessing))

Anyway there are 4 choices they are

WAR - WHDLoad Amiga Renaming
WARP - WHDLoad Amiga Renaming Project
RAW - Renaming Amiga WHDLoad-Installs

Cheers

Seems to be a start of a concesus here Bippy, looks like a lot of us remember the little app called WARP and it seems appropriate for this project as well

Thumbs down I don't like any of them!

WAR = Do you really want to call something associated with the great WHDLoad WAR?

WARP = Term used when reading raw MFM data from a disk and storing it in a file. Therefore it will only confuse things if people have 2 names for totally separate things. Warpers have been around for donkeys years and therefore they should be allowed to use the name.

RAW = I also dislike this name as RAW is usually talking about the data from IFF picture formats after the IFF stuff has been removed. RAW is also a term some patchers use so this is also no good imho.

You said there were 4 choices but you only listed 3. I hope the 4th is better than the other 3! What is wrong with just calling it something generic like WHDLoad Dat (or WHDDat)?

the 4th was ARP (Amiga Renaming Project: WHDLoad) as I am planning to do CD32 ISO's for myself and other bits (JST maybe)

Anyway I agree with the WAR option, but it is an abbreviation.. not a name.. maybe W.A.R.P

We wanted something unique and catchy.

If that is your reasoning why not Call Hall Of Light - Amiga Games Database.

Any suggestions of your own?

How about WANC - WHD Amiga Naming Convention.

And the conversion team can be known as WANCers!

First of all, WHDLoad already INDICATES that the stuff is about Amiga. So no need for it... Here my contributions:

WHORE - WHDload Originals REnamers
AWFUL - Amiga WHDLoad Files Under Law
ARGH - Amiga Renaming Group for HD-Games
WEW - WHDLoad Experts at Work
PUDFU - Please Use Databases From Us
WIRG - WHDLoad Installs Renaming Group
TOSAC - The Old School Amiga Centre
WIDAG - WHDLoad Install Database Achievment Group
FARWI - Fans Are Renaming WHDLoad Installs

I like ARGH and WIDAG best.

EDIT: Burseg's idea is great.

EDIT2: ARP already stands for "Amiga Redump Project" (by Duke)

The key letters here are W (+H +D) for WHDLoad, A for Amiga, R for Renaming, and P for Project.

As far as I can see, there is just no suitable acronym that hasn't already been used. I suggest a less strict form for the name, along the lines of the mid-90's trend for software applications of combining upper and lower case into a word. This is similar to Codetapper's suggestion, and imo is the only way to produce a 'catchy' name while avoiding calling it, erm, 'WANC'.

My humble suggestions:
AmiWR (+P maybe)
AmiWHDat
WHDRename

You get the idea.

I think the ones suggested in the poll are quite poor for the reasons already mentioned by others.

IMHO whatever the acronym used, it should highlight the fact that it is directly related to WHDLoad and start with the letters WHD.

However, I'll leave the suggestions on this basis to others here that are more interested than me.

ARP actually stands for "Address Resolution Protocol", but you already knew that.

I thought WANC was great, but then again I'm sick in the head!

ARP is already taken for Amiga Redump Project.

Finding a decent name is not easy.

Yep! Basically you send out ARP request to obtain MAC (or as some gits call it: LAN adresses) adress for a host or router interface.

I have an exam next week regarding this and other thingys in computer communication.
