Amiga 4000 motherboard
Hi all
In addition to the power supply, what else is required in order for a complete motherboard to function? |

Chip RAM, if it's not soldered on-board.

Daughterboard is not required. I believe an A3000 does need a daughterboard to work but an a4000 does not.

If the main board has no onboard CPU, you will need a CPU card too. The zorro riser is optional in the A4000.

I was just reading 4000 manual and it states that daughterboard needs to be installed to run.

When I fixed a battery leak on an A4000D motherboard, I ran a ton of tests without the daughterboard connected and everything just worked perfectly. Many other people reported the same by the way - both here and over on a1k.org. The only big box Amiga that is known not to work when the daughterboard is missing is the A3000. |

I have two A4000 Rev. B boards here, one is spotless and 100% perfect, the other has been treated badly by the previous owner and needs reworking. I need to test this fully before I do anything else.
I was going to ask the same questions but this post has answered it all for me |

(and roms ) if rev D-CR, cpu is on the motherboard. so cpuboard not needed. End of discussion (as this is how I test boards I get for recap/repair etc) |

Obviously Chucky knows what he is talking about, but just to repeat the point, Zorro busboard does not need to be installed. Buster has to be installed 9 or 11 (maybe 7?). And ROMS! Maybe a list of what can be totally removed would be helpful too. RTC can be removed as well as chip right next to the RTC and battery U177.
