ECS screen mode colours.
From Wikipedia:
Chipset: Enhanced Chip Set (ECS) * Video (Common resolutions): o 640×400i with 16 colors o 640×480 with 4 colors o 800×600i with 4 colors (Super72) Are the 16 and 4 colours user definable from the 4096 palete or are they predefined grey scale colours. Thanks in advance. Don't have a real amiga on me, only have a win32 laptop with the mega mighty WinUAE. |

The palette is fully configurable by the user. The major impediment to use higher resolutions (like productivity, which the ECS chipset can cope) is the amount of chip RAM you have on the machine.

With an Indivision ECS you can get 800x600 in 16 colours too, which I think would be awesome to check out. Of course all the colours are always adjustable with Workbench's Palette Preferences.

ECS superhires modes can only have max 4 colors from palette of 64. (2 bits per color component only)
ADDED: you need non-AGA KS ROM if you want to test this using WinUAE. AGA ROMs don't support ECS superhires color limits. Last edited by Toni Wilen; 20 June 2010 at 09:28. |

I just put my A600 in Super High Res mode and went through all my 4-colour palette presets to see how they would look in the limited 64 colour palette, and sure enough they did look different, but it seems like most of the colours and shades were pretty accurate so at least it must have a decent 64 colour palette in Super High Res modes. I wonder how different it is to the Sega Master System's 64 colour palette.

OCS/ECS color palette: 4 bits per RGB color component (0-15) 16*16*16=4096 colors
ECS superhires color palette: 2 bits per RGB color component (0-3) 4*4*4=64 colors (palette registers are also "scrambled" in this mode, this mode is a hack, Denise chip technology was not fast enough) AGA: 8 bits (0-255) 256*256*256=16M colors |

Cammy: I think the ECS 64-color palette is the same as the SMS 64-color palette.

LSD can make you see 16.8 million colours on the ECS palette, you know?
