Amiga Demobase Torrent
Im downloading now Amiga Demobase as it's uploaded to the EAB File Server.
As soon as i have all files i will start to seed them thru , the torrent file will be posted here on EAB first and afterward on various trackers. |

Ok. Thanks TCD. Hope that the complete EAB File Server can be seeded that way from the EAB tracker. It's a bit painful to download 100-200 files one by one as it is now. I liked the old FTP Server better.

I think a tracker for something like this would be the best.. I can see a lot of folks wanting it -- and as a bonus, it's all..shall we say..freely distributable, so no reason people can't seed this a lot. Magix has been incredibly generous with his bandwidth; a little help might go a long way.
One suggestion, though I'm only marginally familiar with it, is using something like trrntzip (Torrent Zip, I assume) so folks can rezip what they have from TOSEC and other sources and not have to re-download what they already have. A .dat for clrmamepro/Romcenter would be needed, as well, for correct naming. And not to gloss over it.. I can't wait for this.. Of course, the Amiga did a lot of different things, but I think most people immediately think games and demos, so this is a perfect companion to Gamebase Amiga. (Stating the obvious, but still, a huge thanks for the project.) Last edited by paranoid; 04 May 2009 at 19:03. Reason: Forgot that a .dat would be necessary for my suggestion. |

Well something is mighty wrong with the compressed version on Magix's FTP, I downloaded all 13 parts and couldn't decompress any - it said it's not an archive...
Oh well, downloading it torrented now, cheers! Great work sjakie43! |

The version on Magix FTP isn't complete that is why it's not recognised There are 22 parts and I try to upload them, but since I'm also seeding the torrent that takes quite some time...
About the dat file : Maybe Damien or someone else can have a look. There are however many packages with executables only, so ADFs wont help there. |

Haha, oh
So it's pretty useless in the seeding process anyways... Damn you, I thought I could down those and earn some precious extra ratio points! |

I'm not sure I understand.. Demos that are only executables, not on a disk? If so, that's not a problem at all. The file that would be the source of the CRC for the .dat would just be an exe not an adf.

I meant that you can't find the executables in that form on the net. Most of them are taken from archives found on scene.org, pouet.net and kestra.exotica.org.uk. So one would have to extract the archives and maybe even rename the executable. Well everyone can have a look of course and hopefully someone is able to make a dat. I have made the torrent with the single demo files, so it's possible to use it with a dat.

There's an old TOSEC demos-executables floating around that I, and perhaps others, have. But anyway...
Ideally, everything would have to be rezipped using something like trrntzip.exe (like they do at Underground Gamer) but even just a dat of the single demo files would be great. Assuming best compression, they should be relatively close. And if it shaves off even just a little, that would mean a better seeded torrent and people could jump in and start, already having a portion ready to start uploading to others. |

The whole torrent is already zipped (well except a 2 kb text file). Like I said : If anyone can make a dat of it, go ahead and do it. Noone will hold you back

Well, you have to have the files first to make the dat.. Once you have the dat, then you can run it against demos you already have (well, copies perhaps) to rename them to files that are in the torrent, move them to the directory of your torrent download, force a filecheck, and that will mark the ones you already have as downloaded, if some don't match, they get written over with 0s until you download them.
I have started the torrent, in the meantime (I've set uTorrent to append !ut, so if I get a dat, and start the torrent again, everything without !ut is a completed file.. I digress a little..) and I have noticed the directory structure might cause a problem, perhaps someone more knowledgeable could help.. But the directories are (and I do like the idea for Demobase, not knocking it) ...\Amiga Demobase\Amiga Demos\(groupname)\demos.zip Not sure if that effectively kills a dat or not.. Would there have to be a dat for every group (ugh)? Hm.. Anyway, just trying to help speed things up.. I really want to check this out. |

Let's just hope someone can create a working dat (that is compatible to the structure of the Amiga Demobase). Once that is done I will recreate the torrent if it is necessary

There is still one part missing... Part 18 is on the way and then you should be able to unpack with either WinRAR or 7Zip Axel

Finally Amiga Demobase is now available on the EAB file server. Happy leeching and would be cool if some could seed it a bit via the EAB tracker once they got it
