Real WinUAE is sooo much more fun, I'm glad that my real slow A2000 (A2620, A2091, A2088, ECS +++) is really dead forever. It was a nice system in the 1990'th, but we have 2018 now.

I have 1xA500 and 1xA1200 (from Commodore, not ESCOM's shit version) and I guess that the look and feel of using these vintage machines is so much better. Emulation cannot mimic that.

I second that... emulation is quick, easy and much cheaper. But the original hardware just gives it the extra edge.

I suppose it's like driving a car. Simulation does not give you the same thrill as in reality.

The irony being that UAE stood for Useless Amiga Emulator to begin with... yet thanks to Toni's amazing work it has become the Ultimate Amiga Emulator lol

Hardware & Emulation - doesn't have to be exclusively one or the other

I jumped into the Amiga world about three years ago with Morph OS on an old Mac Mini that had been basically collecting dust (well, should say Amiga(ish) I suppose) ... ran across WinUAE and enjoy it quite a bit ... then more recently decided to take the plunge with actual Amiga hardware ... an Amiga 600.

I get a kick out of the Amiga 600, for all the grief that model gets, works great for me. And the PCMCIA & IDE interfaces make it easy to port things over from my emulated environment.

The A600 had its capacitors replaced - that has prolonged its usefulness. But, I suppose other components will wear out eventually. But gotta say, for a system as old as it is, sure is rugged & works well!

For stuff that doesn't work on the hardware, running it via emulation works for me -- best of both worlds

The problem is that we Amighists when we talk about Amiga Real, we always refer to the old carcasses (case) and not al OS. This only happens on Amiga, Linux for example, he never owned a Case but only an OS, said this or Emulator or Real does not change anything, is l'OS to excite not plastic or silicon.

What I want to know is, how has WinUAE (and WinFellow) been developed? Based on the actual IC blueprints or just the official Commodore Technical Manuals and guesswork for AGA (because AFAIK Commodore never released details of those)? I'm just wondering why it takes so long to develop and perfect the emulation, and I would guess that the latter has been the case.

WinUAE was either the first or second util I download on the new pc in 2002. It was competing with MAME32. But I loved it, easy to set up, create hard drives and the big bonus was being able to emulate a Action Replay Cartridge III that I never had access to before as I had trouble using HRTMon and ARCIV on my A1200. And once Toni added Amix support in 2013 well that was amazing.

I love my A1200 but WinUAE and FS-UAE for Linux is portable so gets bonus points as well.
