A/NES Pro v1.17 released
No it's not an april fools joke. It's really out. There are only minor changes but I decided to wake up my old sourcecode and release a new version. I've got a few ideas for the future so we'll see what happens..
Remember, you need the fastest 68k Amiga available to fully enjoy this. Get the stuff here: http://nes.goondocks.se if you're unfamiliar with A/NES, it's a NES 8-bit emulator for classic AmigaOS (no it won't work on OS4). It was one of the first NES-emulators for AmigaOS, started back in may 1997. |

Page not found here!
But, really, it's a great thing you're still working on this, I remember trying it the first time when you released the initial version and I was amazed I could play NES games on my 030, even with all the glitches/incompatibilities! So, kudos to you, sir! edit: Downloads ok from "A/NES" section , but not from "SOFTWARE" section, needs /anesfiles/ not /files/ in the path. |

oRBIT, would you consider publicly releasing the source code for A/NES if it is not already available?

wXR, I am not interested in releasing the source.
A/NES is my little "baby" since 1997. I've spent countless hours on it and I am not ready to give it away for free. Perhaps (and probably) a stupid reason but that's how I feel. The code would probably not make much sense anyway. |

There are a lot of problems that can be associated releasing code or providing users with the means of being able to upgrade HW etc. Everyone knows how the Gotek development was killed when people started being greedy and used someones work to make some $$. As a result, planned upgrades and cross platform development was killed.

Orbit, would you at least agree to release the source when and if you decide to no longer develop A/NES? It's a great emulator and it would be great to see it live on even when you aren't in a position to maintain it anymore.
And kipper please don't tell me that you believe "open source" is what ultimately caused that. People can behave like assholes in both open and closed-source environments, easily. |

and that is my point, that is why people dont want to release their code when they see people benefitting like that

I doubt I will change my mind. I wonder how many people that will find it interesting anyway. I can probably count the number of A/NES-related e-mails I got the last few years on one hand so it looks like the userbase is pretty small.
Can't say I've been very active with the updates, but still.. |
