Amiga Escort External SCSI Hard Drive

Hey all

I'm looking at getting this drive as a replacement to my Stardrive setup but the big book of Amiga Hardware has next to no information on this whatsoever. Anyone know anything about it? Pain in the rear or no? Does it require special software to run it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Alright?

Are you on about this item, this woman is trying to sell.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=220238543504

Looks like a straight forward HD powered externally, I would be inclined to ask for the SCSI software drivers, I would think its connected via the parallel port - but don't quote me.

Ya that's the one. I want it but I'm skeptical bc there's no software. I haven't decided what I'm gonna do yet.

I agree with SkippyAR - it's just a plain external SCSI drive... there's nothing 'Amiga' about it - would run on anything.

I'd say 100% that it is not parallel, but an external SCSI connector. So it's not going to work at all on your Amiga without a suitable SCSI controller. GVP controllers usually have this DB25 SCSI connection for external drives - so do many others.

If you do have a SCSI controller already you shouldn't need any drivers, just your controllers normal HD setup program.

Personally I think that drive is NASTY, I'm sure you can do better

@boing

my friend, avoid this one, as Musashi states, its just a bog-standard SCSI, it has a 50pin centronics cable to db25 connector, and thats it. as M states that drive looks nasty.

If you go onto www.ebay.co.uk and spot anything you like i can help ship it to you my friend.

also you could request a scsi drive from www.amibay.com that might help too

but this one, i would say avoid the ebay auction like the plague.

I think one of these might be a better bet. You could use a CF card with it as well. I couldn't see why it wouldn't work in a suitably ROMmed A1000.

Depending on your setup it might not be suitable for you though

Thanks everybody for the input! My miggy's completely stock except for replacing a floppy drive that was going bad. I would LOVE to give it IDE functionality! Though would I need to switch out the bootstrap for a 1.3 ROM?

@Zetro

You've always been kind to me. Thanks for the help and such. I'm gonna give UK eBay a look and see if I find anything good.

@Musashi

Is it possible to order one of these?

To boot from that IDE adapter you would need v2 kickstart (37.350 minimum). So might be just as good to upgrade to 3.1?

Won't work with 1.3 unfortunately
