I guess many here did, too. And some may still resist!
I did till 2004. It was an audigy2 iirc. Today we have better onboard sound on most pc mainbords. And what for? Just to emulate Paula@8bit/22500Hz. |

Becoming more and more active as a DJ, I switched to CoolEditPro with an SB Extigy card (ext USB) around 2003, because I went all optical and just had more possibilities with Cooledit to edit audio (compared with Samplitude Pro I was using on Amiga, which was not 100% stable, causing me several times to lose hours of editing). And the Maestro card on the Miggy had a hardware grounding issue which meant it could not digitally record correctly on A3000/4000 machines. I did not attempt the hardware hack to fix this, instead I used the card to record digitally my Amiga audio to minidisc !
Still have that Extigy because it has this "undocumented feature" similar to Amiga's Maestro card: it strips the SCMS bit from a digital stream, so you can make as many digital copies you want between 2 digital devices (DAT, MD etc) without having it even to connect to a PC And finally, the Toccata indeed sounds still better/warmer than todays onboard crap. I only swear to external soundcards on PC for ripping my vinyls. It remains a magnificient piece of hardware which served me very well. |
