Post amiga store in the uk

Hi!

I just moved here to the uk from Sweden, couldn't bring my a4k so I brought my old a1200, it's longing for a 060 card though. What companys in the uk still sell amiga parts? It would be nice to know which ones are good. I bought some stuff from powerc before but they don't stock 060 accelerators anymore.

I'm afraid the best place to buy Amiga equipment in the UK is probably www.ebay.co.uk I don't think anyone in the UK sells brand new 68060 accelerator boards anymore which is a pity.

Or you could also try www.amibench.org which is a good place to buy and sell Amiga equipment in the UK. It's not quite as safe as eBay though. The 060 accelerators usually go for between 120 and 180 on eBay. Good luck with your hunt!

The only shop in the UK that I know of that still sells hardware is www.forematt.co.uk/amiga.htm but their stock of hardware is extremely limited. They're more of a software company.

Eyetech (http://www.eyetech.co.uk) might still sell Apollo 060 boards, but they're not worth the money - mine crashed regularly for years, and I eventually got a Blizzard 060 instead. Vesalia in Germany (http://www.vesalia.de) sell new Blizzard 060 boards, but they will *not* fit standard 1200s - you will need to fit your 1200 into a tower case.

A few places sell the new Viper 040 and 060 boards, I haven't seen a single favourable review of those. They apparently use recycled CPUs and are very, very badly made. Some have odd bodges soldered haphazardly into place, whilst others mysteriously do not. There does not seem to be any quality control in place at the manufacturing plant, and they don't conform to a single hardware specification.

Arrow amiga retailers I have dealt with:

http://www.amigadeals.co.uk are fast and usually have good stuff (I bought a nice 1.6 slimHD from them)

but staaaay awaaaay from http://www.amigastuff.co.uk ! their joysticks are rubbish and they forget your order

there is also http://www.eyetech.co.uk but they are a bit expensive and the site is confusing...

I recommend http://www.ebay.co.uk people are usually nice there (or I've been lucky sofar)

Wasn't there a thread about this in Amiga Website reviews btw? it probably has more stuff listed

edit: ack! ant512 beat me to it!

I have used Power Computing before and they certainly were quick and efficient when I ordered a new PSU for my A600.

I know Redland, not far from the city centre. I live in Bristol also.

Fairlight is dead on all formats essentially. The will to keep doing the same thing is gone. If for some miracle the AmigaOne took off and who knows, maybe I would do something, and so would Fairlight. But the Amiga doesn't need Fairlight at the moment. If I go crack anything new, the last few developers simply wont bother anymore.
