Another (old) newbie !

Greetings from sunny Dorsetshire !

Recently returned to the fold , currently beating an A1200 back into life .

Turned to the dark side in about 95 , now look after about 50 PCs and about 30 Macs .

Amazed how much stuff is still available for the Amiga and how useful the info on the web is .

I'm very rusty , but have managed to get an HD formatted and installed on the A1200 , the floppy was knackered but another Tech at work saw me playing with the A1200 and said he had an old Amiga I could have .
Turned out it was an A500 , played a couple of games on it , then it green screened , so nicked the floppy to put in the A1200 ( now the lid doesn't fit !)

Still got an A1200 I towered years ago ( wasn't pretty ) , not found the video cable yet , so don't know if it'll fire back up after 10 or more years .
Still got an A500 somewhere with A590 , again doubt it'll still work .

Anyhoo , hello !

I'm quite enjoying this lark !

Hi willbloke, and welcome to EAB!

Your mothballed A1200 tower and A500 with A590 may yet surprise you.

I'd like to think so , but I've read about old HDs seizing up if not used for long periods .

In the loft there should also be an A2000 half an A600 and a CDTV with a knackered CD drive.

Had thought about stuffing a mini-itx MoBo in the CDTV , a bit like the new C64

I've got a 8833 monitor , but can't find the video lead at present , maybe the A1200tower still works ?

In other news I did find my Music-X install discs and they still worked , got it installed on the standard A1200 , now just need to build a MIDI interface .

I look after 23 Pro-tools systems including an HD3 , been out of it so long I was surprised at the features of Music-X after all these years .

There are no leaky batteries to worry about in either machine, unless you have a RAM expansion with RTC in the A500, or an accelerator or RTC in the A1200. Any faults after 10 years or so of not being used can usually be attributed to deterioration of capacitors - electrolytics especially - on the motherboards and in PSUs.

If the hard drives don't spin up at first, try tapping them firmly with the handle of a small screwdriver or knife. This can give them a jolt just sufficient to bring them to life without causing damage.

Good luck!

Welcome willbloke

we are always on the look out from hardware pr0n, so if you get the chance upload some photos of the Amiga hardware you have

you can get a new A1200 floppy drive from ebay, that way your case will fit again!

sticking with the HD you wanna check out WHDLoad, coupled with a transfer kit, something like EasyADF, which means you can transfer files from PC to Amiga

anyway

welcome back
