I'll try and solder it up. Back soon...

Woohoo! It lives again.

The layout of the board is slightly different but the connections to the PIC were spot-on, and so were the colours for the PSX cable.

This time I've just hotglued the cable strain relief area.
Put it into CD32 mode and confirmed it's all working with Psygore's very cool JoyPortTest utility (nice one, Psygore!).

Many thanks for your help!

looks like the Genesis has a different pinout so it would need an adapter...

looking at the Genesis pinout (http://pinouts.ru/Game/genesiscontroller_pinout.shtml), it looks like pin 5 and 7 is swapped over, Has anyone tried this?

I did. Just make a short swapity-changy cable (to serve as an adapter) and Genesis pads will work as a two button Amiga pads, and vice versa. If I could do it then it's super-easy

Nice, I'll see if i can make a switch or something in the adapter, not sure if there is enough room though

I was able to modify the board to allow a 2 way switch that should allow the previously incompatible joysticks (MSX, MSX2, Genesis etc) that use pin 5 for power. I'll test it out once i get the bits and pieces and let everyone know. Basically it will mean a little hole in the plastic case with a semi hidden slide switch that will toggle console joystick type. It will increase the cost by about $3 for those that want this option

Hello kipper,

Great idea for the switch! Your adapter would be compatible with a lot of db9 devices. As i own a master system, i ll take this option.
Regards
