Hack request: Xenon II

Request for someone to hack Xenon II:
  1. remove player ship inertia
  2. add autofire
I'm guessing no one will actually do this, but one can live in hope! These adjustments would make the game significantly better IMO.

Inertia is a game feature.

Indeed, one that was of very poor choice, and seems to sadly plague a lot of 16-bit shooting games that were released for the 16-bit home computers.

The game is known to detect autofire joystick fire. But they're SELLING autofire feature in the shop. That's not really a good game design though.

Haha, that's hilarious. The game is really not playable without autofire, especially on certain joystick designs.

I wasn't aware of this. Is there anyone in particular I can ask about this who might be willing to do it?

I thought the drift/lag is because of the game engine itself, not a deliberate choice?

I have a Competition Pro and its auto-fire works perfectly fine in the game. So well that it actually makes an almost-solid line of shots which no emeny can escape.

No idea what your problem is with inertia. Never felt it does hinder gameplay at all.

Inertia in shooting games is generally derided by fans of the genre. Put it this way, you will not see it in any modern shooting games.

About the autofire, you can workaround it by adding more money and buying autofire
About the inertia, it would require some RE but could be doable.

For me both are cheats. But I admit as even if I'm a big fan of whatever Bitmap Brothers, this game eludes me. It's way too hard and misses level codes or something.

If my suggestions are considered cheats that make the game easier, I'd be happy for whoever did the modding to add a more challenging mode. Maybe add more enemies, more bullets to dodge, etc.

Here's something else I'd love to see modified in this game - the framerate. I wonder if it could be optimised to run at 50fps? That would be a colossal improvement and make it feel much more like an arcade game.

That would be colossal work to begin with.

The tiles were just ripped. Maybe a 50fps remake could be possible...

(Probably not by me though, doing it in Blitz would be a stretch)

there is a cracked version with a cool deep trainer
ie you can activate autofire (3 levels) or an interesting change of vertical scrolling speed (0 to infinite)

i have used it to make some preloaded ussload adfs

btw, when playing with autofire enabled in this game, its imo convenient to directly turn off the music

its a pain to listen the fireshoot removing the drum n bass channel

Is there an option to have music / sfx only? If not, that's another thing that needs adding to the wish list.
