Hi all,
can anyone recommend a guarenteed working 72 pin 32mb 60ns simm that will work flawlessly with an Apollo 1260? (you know how picky these cards are about thier memory)

thanks, JuvUK

If you seek out FPM SIMMS (rather than EDO) you'd probably have better luck?

Buying from someone like http://AmigaKit.co.uk and paying a premium for their support might be an idea...?

P.S. I dont remember this card being picky about SIMMS

I had a look in the amigakit store but they don't seem to have any 32mb simms . i have also had a look on fleebay, and there are a few listed (please excuse my ignorance) what is the difference between FPM and EDO? why are they better?

seriously the apollos are very picky about memory, i have 3 x edo 32mb simms, they have had varying stability,1st one was ok just the odd freeze/crash, 2nd was terrible, if it would boot at all it'd crash within seconds, and the current one which is the best so far but still the odd random guru.

thanks, JuvUK

hi DoogUK,
thanks for the very generous offer, but i'm now thinking it could be timing issues (its a 2B board with budgie revision 0) or maybe the caps as the problem reduces after about 10-15 mins of the amiga being turned on, hmmmmm decisions, decisions.......

cheers, JuvUK

That does sound like the timing issue to me as well.

i will recommend to get a 50ns simm. i have only 1240 card, but with all 60ns simms which ive tested it was unstable. witj 50ns simm it runs for days without any error, or selfcrash etc.

Doog, mate: I'm pretty sure the problem is capacitors-related, as our friend as mentioned.

Old Micron SIMMs pop up regularly on ebay, sometimes NOS. They are usually 60ns but work flawlessly with the Apollo 1260. (Both EDO and FPM variants work OK here... I could post part #s if necessary.) In my experience the board isn't too picky with SIMMs... in general FPM may be more compatible, but I'm no expert.

Regardless, I would *definitely* change your motherboard caps (especially if it's an older C= board), timing fixes might also be needed.

I would have thought FPM simms would be less compatible due to the slower speeds.....70ns as apposed to 60ns of the edo?

There are 60ns FPMs, too - some in my Blizz 2060, mixed with EDOs.
