Not an amiga exclusive but I always thought it was a well polished and highly playable platformer:

So often i hear that Zool is an awesome platformer but the truth is there are better games of this type on Amiga

And anyway the Amiga didn't really have the hardware or dev support to compete with the Snes or Megadrive. As well western design back then for the most part was simply not as good as say Konami,Capcom,Sega,Nintendo etc. Most of the time the results were easy to see

There are still some charming games though like the arcade coversions of Rodland and New Zealand Story, Yo Joe is quite neat.Never anything to compete with the likes of Mario though and if you havn't already, i suggest you play that over anything Amiga has

Even though the Amiga is my true love when it comes to how much i fondly remember the era and actually owning the hardware, i'd suggest playing some of the better Snes and Megadrive classics - Amiga did other stuff far better than what you got on consoles but platformers certainly wasn't it's strength when in a direct comparison

Actually Naughty ones and Soccer Kid were rather well done and worth a look.I also played Mr Nutz first on Amiga and found it to be less generic than the slightly souless console versions - possibly because i played the Amiga version first or was it that i just didn't dig the new and inferior console music

No, I think you preferred the Amiga version because it's a totally different game. Except the main character the Amiga version has nothing in common with the Mr Nutz-games for console.

Thanks!!!

To answer the original question, the secret islands aren't present in the Amiga version, probably due to space/time constraints at the time.

Without revealing too much,it's still a great conversion, the happy & sad
end-sequences are in there.

Somebody ban him for this blasphemy!!!

@Adropac2 - Mr.Nutz was originally amiga game with console ports done 'wrong' way. I liked Amiga version, but never really got very deep into it. (just first couple of levels)

Anubis,

Today I was making a backup of all my CD32 CD's and I have Body Blows / Project X Cd that has several demo versions of other games including Superfrog that i finished playing an hour ago, and I must agree that the graphics are simplistic but the game (demo) was very amusing to play. Simple also with no fuss.

Simplistic and cartoonish are words I would use, but most certainly they are not ugly and they compare well with rest of games for 16-bit computers.

Indeed. To point out that although simplistic, they fit very well the genre. Less is not necessarily worse.

And I was referring only about Superfrog.

Yes quite different of course.I have a couple of friends that prefer the console versions more but then they played them first so i guess it may because of that

Cracking conversions of Rodlands and New Zealand Story for Amiga - i actually prefer them to the original arcade as to me there seems a warmer atmosphere

Shame some of the big names like Capcom and Konami etc never really bothered to get any of their games or indeed something new out for the Amiga. We got a Batman game i suppose but that turned out fairly dire if i'm remembering right and was that really even in house Konami anyway?

I guess it could be from having to work harder with Amiga's hardware to get similar results like what the consoles could effortlessly do from theirs

Nothing beats SUPERFROG what comes to OCS platformers. Technically magnificent game. Playability and game design also top quality. Only THE GREAT GIANA SISTERS is equally good platformer.

Superfrog - so so very ugly compared to real games like James Pond 3. I can't
believe superfrog was in a top ten (thats why i downloaded it). Character sprites with ugly colors that don't fit with average tiles. Loading screens that use gradient fills in a bad way (unlike the beutiful gradient fills in Premier). I have never felt so cheated since that time i played 21 at a carnival where they had taken out all the odd cards.
