Smile Pinball Fantasies Theme Remix (Orchestral/Movielike)

Hi guys.

I'm currently working on a movie/orchestral kind of remix from the pinball fantasies theme. I'm planning to send this to amigaremix.com but the submission system is not very fast. and i really like some feedback on my song. its not finished yet but i am getting there.

i hope i put this song in the right section of forum and hopefully its allowed to? i have read the FAQ.

I've just listened, it's not bad but somehow it lacks the "drive" the original had, i.e. I find it a bit boring. But that might just be me. It's a nicely arranged track anyway.

nice track
Maybe it could be more punchy, but I suspect we are pollute by the original one.

yeah its hard to convert this original songbeat to a movietheme kind of beat. so i had to improvise a bit. especially the scratchy sounds in the original song i have no idea how to put that in a movietheme. i would need some good and modern high quality sounds for that.

also the bpm (tempo) of the original song is to fast for a movietheme so i needed to slow it down a bit. (especially the mid and end part of the original song)

while the melody is not that hard to make it movietheme like

it sounds excellently composed, although i'm not very keen on some of the sounds.... they sound like some kind of workstation (trinity, triton or something like that) and i'm never very keen on those sorts of sounds, as to me they sound a bit generic.

The one it does best is the choral thing, although that's a little too loud in the mix during the "second" section, as you are drowning out the little synthy detail bits in the background... stuff like strings work wel on such machines, but i am not too keen on the timpany sound myself, or the oboe (i assume that's what it is?)

anyway, it still sounds well mixed and the like, just a few changes i would put in myself, although it's all objective... you are clearly achieving the right kind of result for what you are after with this. nice work!

most sounds come from this vsti plugin

http://www.philharmonik.com/Main.html?prod_MP
its the best orchestral vsti i could find.

and some i did with steinberg hypersonic vsti.

i composed it in renoise (www.renoise.com)

its hard to make it all sound "natural" and well mixed. compressors/limiters and eq etc. to me mastering the whole song is the hardest part of all. i can spent litteraly hours changing knobs and sliders until i get about the desired result i want.

as a rule of thumb, mastering and mixing shouldnt really be done by the same person

but that applies more to professional pieces... where some bugger can pick up the bill for the mastering engineer!

the fact you are using VST instuments explains my problem with the "sound" then.... as i am a firm beleiver in real hardware over software everytime... you -can- hear the difference.

Well I'm not such a spoiled brat as these other dudes, I really like that tune. I actually stopped working for a moment and just listened to it.

Great job!

hey, some criticsim was asked for, and i gave it.... i still the tune, and said as much, its just a personal preference of mine that i dont like the sound of much software synthesis, and so i;m likely to point that out.

there's no need to be rude for the sake of it.

p.s. a little bit of hardware is not that expensive these days. some of the money spent on Amigas on this forum would easily buy a very nice bit of kit.

Why am I a spoiled brat when I give honest feedback? You should really watch your language...
