First things first - I take it you're using an old version of HDToolbox, from 3.1 perhaps? Make sure you're pressing enter after you modify any values. Due to a limitation of how GadTools works, HDToolbox doesn't know you've changed values if you just enter them and click elsewhere.

Is the scsi.device update definitely in place before you run HDToolbox? You can run

Version scsi.device

in the shell to check.

Hmmm, yep, not sure where that setting is but it sounds like would need to be enabled alright.

As for the crashing, not sure but it looks like it could be a CPU library / FPU issue. Are you using an FPU version of any software? If you copy the same file using Workbench, does it work fine?

It shouldn't, but maybe there's an FPU build or something.

For floating point-related gurus on 3.1 without an FPU there is a fix:
http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/SetPatch_43.6b

In most cases an FPU is not required, it's just the math libs malfunctioning. The new SetPatch fixes this.

Just noticed this thread. Thanks for watching my video and glad your sorted.

I just want to clarify if you copied the files from the dropbox link as I did in the video?

I'll maybe add a sticky in the comments to tell people the must copy all the files across to ensure this works.

edit: where is the setting for full drive RGB mode as you mentioned above?
