You think CCS has got higher ELO than Genius? Maybe it has but I played few games against CCS and it didnt convince me Amiga was able to play chess better than PC. When I played chess I had ELO around 1950 (national) and Genius (and Fritz) was ideal rival for me.

I like everything that runs on Amiga I just wanted to recommend you more comfortable way to analyse positions etc, if you use chess programs as help against human players on web ( "best moves" are forbidden but who cares ).
And PC programs have BIG advantage - databases and books.

While you two experts are discussing chess games on the amiga, is there any that can play chess960 (Fischer's chess) and/or Capablanca (or any other variants)?

There are a few on PC, but I never encountered one on amiga.

I've never heard of them, they look strange. I want chess games with opening books, when not, I turn book off.
I think they would be on hol abime if they exist on Ami.
Thanks for suggestion, I will try them

Well, they aim to add more challenge and focus more on strategy/tactics than orthodox chess (especially chess960, since you can't use one of the 'common' openings).

It is nice for people who get a bit bored with orthodox chess (like me, probably a bit spoiled by video games, although I must say that today I am more into shogi (japanese chess) and its numerous variants and in the process of learning Xiangqi (chinese chess)).
So that may not be your cup of tea. Still, a nice thing to try them though.

I am not sure if they would be in HOL because it could be, as the PC games, that the main game is orthodox chess but variations are included as optional. Thus if you don't check in-depth the game, maybe you can miss that.
Well I guess that when I have time, I'll try to check that.

By the way, if you want to try ChessV (one of the free PC games with chess variants), since the site is down, you can get it here.

Why not to WHDfy CCS, just because its an old Amiga chess game ?
Its still lot of fun, and strong enough for beginners :-)

It's the first time I heard about that program - Is it better than Colossus Chess?

About Chess Variants: I'm not sure but If AmiChess can connect to FICS, most probably is you can play chess variants in Amiga (via AmiChess).

Installed CCS directly to Workbench. Works great.
The engine plays very well, but very close defence.
Agreed that the elo of CCS is higher than Colossus X,
but I choose Colossus. More fun.

Smile

Currently testing this game:
http://68k.aminet.net/package/game/board/Chess

Seems one of the makers was Jay Miner himself
If I let the 'Chess2.02' thinks more than 30sec, the level of chess is very good.

I dont know how they made it, because seems the algorithm is very fast
and uses the cpu like no other engine I know. More power = m-u-c-h better playing.

The program has only 48k, and no opening book

If you have a 68060 (I don't), why not try it vs WINUAE...
