This will probably sound stupid, but...

I can't run this one game.
I can't find any good help files, most of them just tell me I am to select a .adf and click quickstart.
But when I start the very program, I get the message:

Okay so from the quickstart I choose the .adf file (there are three of them, one is a user disc, I don't know which to select but none of them work anyways.)
I get this when I start it:

And when I register the .adf file as the main ROM file I just get some weird colours flickering.

The game is the Hound Of Shadows, with three discs. I don't know what settings this game requires, could somebody help me?

It's simple : You need a kickstart rom
You can transfer this from your real Amiga or buy Amiga Forever from Cloanto. We are not allowed to point out where to get them, but you can try to search for them.

So I'm boned...
I can see why Amiga emulation is not so popular now...

Is there any way to run what I have here?
I downloaded ADF Opus, but I can't copy from it or anything.

Only with people who can't read dialogue boxes and understand simple forum responses.

ADF Opus wont help. You have a simple problem and there is a simple solution Maybe you wanna know what I'm talking about (and what the first screenshot tells you ), so have a look here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kickstart_(Amiga)

I've seen a lot of these "help me" threads. The most people gave up before they see the first Amiga game running. Anyway:

Hello Hedgehog & welcome to the EAB

I honestly agree with the advice above, have a read of the links, digest, ask for more help if you still need it...

...I'm unaware of your background but if you've never had an Amiga for real there are two things to say:
-It's a full computer platform, not much alike to x86 that you're possibly used to & and therefore also rather more complex than picking up a console emulator - there's a bit of a learning curve.
-There's lots of good stuff to do once you get the hang of the basics, I doubt you'll regret a bit of persistence.

Quick tip:
As a minimum you need :-
-An Amiga.
(well, an emulator of said computer)
-A 'kickstart' rom image - think of this as being very vaguely like the BIOS of a PC.
(still under copyright so don't ask for such here - forum rules) - versions 1.3 & 3.1 most important
-An .adf image of whatever game you're trying to run.

All the best.

Ah I see.
Although that guide I've already seen was of no use before as it was before.
I still don't know what .adf to run, discs 1 and 2 just show black then gray then white then black screen, while the user disc does the same but shows and image of a hand holding a floppy disc with 1.3 written underneath it.

Sorry that I've not mentioned this before, but you should use the Kickstart 3.1 for Hound of Shadow. First select A500 most common in quickstart and then go to the Rom window and select the Kickstart 3.1 Rom. This way the game should start with disk one inserted

Ahhh, I think I have it:

If you're getting a screen with a hand holding a floppy you're most of the way there.
This means you have a Kickstart Rom image (version 1.3 - good for a lot of games) & by either luck of judgement you have the emulator (WinUAE I presume) set up to load it.

If this was a real computer what you have done is turned it on but not put a floppy in the drive - the screen is saying 'give me a floppy'.

TBH I've no idea what your discs 1 & 2 are, but lets assume they are a game spread over two discs...
...no PC can directly read an Amiga floppy so 'FloppyName.adf' is an image of said physical disc that an emulator will treat as a real floppy...
...so if your 'Amiga' is asking for a floppy, give it one!
Re-run WinUAE & either on the Quickstart page or from the menu entry 'Floppy drives' select your two disc images (.adf) & put them in your first two virtual floppy drives. Click 'start' & away you go...

I use Kickstart 2.04 for Hound of Shadows here and have passed the character screen. If you have this Rom you should try to use it

Well, I downloaded 49 kickstart files. None of them can get over Char Gen... Maybe something is wrong with the files...
I tried:
Amiga kick13.rom
Amiga kick20.rom
Amiga kick31.rom
kick13.rom
kick120.rom
kick130.rom
kick204.rom
Kickstart 1.3.rom
Kickstart 3.1.rom
Kickstart v2.04 rev 37.175 (1991)(Commodore)(A500+).rom
Kickstart v2.04 rev 37.175 (1991)(Commodore)(A3000).rom
Kickstart v2.05 rev 37.300 (1991)(Commodore)(A600HD).rom
Kickstart v3.1 rev 40.55 (1993)(Commodore)(A3000).rom
Kickstart v3.1 rev 40.70 (1993)(Commodore)(A4000).rom
Kickstart-Disk v1.3 rev 34.5 (1987)(Commodore)(A1000).adf
SuperKickstart-Disk v2.04 rev 37.175 (1991)(Commodore)(A3000).adf (No idea what this is being an .adf...)

Any other suggestions?

Okay try the config in the attachment. Go to the ROM window in WinUAE and select 'KS ROM v2.04 (A500+) rev 37.175 (512k) [390979-01]'. Then go to the Floppy drives window and replace my disks with yours. You can load my config by clicking on 'Load from...' in the Configurations window.

Well, it got closer...
After Char Gen it displayed a blurry mess of pixels...
Most probably it's my files.
