Thanks for showing your scores. So you've lost less life than I in the first level.

Seems like you really got the maximum score, liviux. Couldn't beat it:

Youtube uploads take an eternity today, don't know why. I'll provide gameplay vids later.

Thanks for tip, handy to know

John which filter have you used in your latest screenshot and video. Is it just scanlines? Makes benefactor look sharper and nicer looking

In Display-section I've set resolution to Hires (normal) and lines to Double.

This is the Filter-section:

Most important is that you set "No scaling" instead of "Default".

Then Null Filter with 2x Horizontal and 2x Vertical size.

Because of hires and doubled lines that makes the game effectively 4x high and 4x wide which fits very nice for a resolution of 1920x1080.
At this resolution 1 pixel-scanlines would be too thin so I recommend using the Scanlines75Dx4.png-mask.

Since they're thicker Youtube didn't "deinterlace" them away and you can now watch Benefactor with scanlines in FullHD.

If you've attached your 1080p-screen via HDMI you should be able to set its refresh rate to 50Hz. Then combined with WinUAE's Low latency VSync the illusion of having an Amiga is perfect in my opinion.

Thanks John for sharing your setting. Definitely be checking this out

I must admit I use FS-UAE and like the whdload integration it has.
To keep things tidy I've opened another thread asking the question on how to run WHDload games in WinUAE without ClassicWB.
Appreciate any advice.

I prefer games where you can take a 10 sec break to remember what came next. Essentially games with moderate action.

Note to the ghost: It appears on the same spot where it disappeared, but its speed and momentum is calculated anew based on your movement at that time, so if you dont move, it will head directly towards you. That means its usually not a good idea to reuse the ladder again which you used to distract him.

Come on guys, another two players and you have five. It might open the flood gates for late scores?

I'd never really played this before, so not really a fan of having to start so far into the game

We're almost at the end of this round and a suggestion for the scoring has come flooding in (from Joni over at Lemon, actually).

A tie of five players for first place is unprecedented in almost ten years that we've been running this competition, but that's what we've got here. As it stands, all five players get maximum points, as per the rules, and that's absolutely not a problem (it doesn't say much for the suitability of the game itself but that's another discussion).

Joni suggested, however, that it should be decided in order of the scores being posted, to reward those who did it earlier and spent considerable time offering advice to other players (which is to be commended). So we'd give bonus point(s) added on to their (game) score in order of finishing, which would be:

liviux76 (who gets the letter choice for Round 9 as the tie-breaker for that)
john4p
Gildorn
Harry
Joni

liviux76 would therefore be the only player who would gain the maximum 20 points.

Now, this isn't a rule (at the moment), so I'd like to know how the players in question feel about that? I think there needs to be a mutual agreement - however there is no pressure to do so, it's just a suggestion so if anyone would rather keep it a dead heat then we will do that.

Also, we have already had a three-way tie for a game this year and that stayed a tie, so that wouldn't be consistent, however we can consider a proper rule change to cater for this next year.

As we have a break now we've reached the half-way stage of the competition, we can spend a bit of time thinking about it before publishing the final results.

In sports competitions, normally tied results get the same place, so I would prefer to handle it here too. Else the result is dependend on who had the time to play the game first (I didnt have at the second weekend).
That liviux gets the choice of letter is fine, because that can not be shared.
Knockout is another thing, there the places can not be worth the same because of advancing to the next round, so an order is required (an that was in the past who submitted first, so thats fine).

Yeah equal scores should remain being worth equal points.
I agree that liviux getting to choose the letter is fine.

This was a cool round!
I'm happy that many players were able to achieve the highest score.

I think that all five deserve the gold medal and it's also fair that, having posted the highest score first, I am the one that gets to choose the initial letter of the game of next round (above all because it would be difficult to find another solution for tie breaking the first places).

So, let me know when and how I have to communicate my decision about the initial letter of the game for the next round... I can't wait to play it!

Thanks for the input guys, some very fair points.

So therefore, it's a five-way tie so well done to those who scored the maximum. I'll now update the standings and stats, and will see you next Sunday for the start of the Round 8 vote - another Open Round.

Liviux - I will PM you in due course
