Can't get workbench to see my 8Gb CF Card
I just bought an 8 Gb Kingston CF card but when i run HDToolbox it just won't show up.
I tried everything, even setting him up under Winuae but i get the same result. It works great on my PC so the card is ok. The card is the same in the picture and is the same as my other's 4Gb CF Cards, even the Amigakit sell this one but the 4gb Version. Any ideas? |

As thomas said, but make sure you select the correct partition or you will erase something you dont want to.
Use "list disk" to list the drives attached. Use "select disk (number of drive)". Use "list disk" to confirm you have correct one selected (it will be marked with *). Use "clean" to erase all partition info from it. Last edited by FOL; 30 November 2011 at 16:17. |

You can either use
select volume <volume letter> or select disk <number of the disk in the list> The former selects both the disk and a partition, the latter only selects a disk. You can enter ? to get a list of supported commands. You can put a ? at the end of a command line to get some help for that specific command. |

Ok, i removed the partitions and tried it again with no luck. The 1200 still doesn't see the card.
What more can i do? |

There is a solid chance its simply not Amiga friendly and won't work.
We have seen it several times in the past especially with Kingston cards. I always recommend Sandisk as being most compatible. |

I have had problems with Kingston cards as well - also some Transcend cards just don't want to play.

You're not running idefix or using something other than scsi.device with hdtoolbox are you?
Cards not compatible with amigas still work in winuae. (as long as they work in windows) And I didn't think removing mbr's would make any difference on a real Amiga.. Afaik it's only a protection mechanism in winuae to prevent people from screwing up their windows partitions.. |

Does Toolbox see it, but not boot from it? If Toolbox sees it, have you tried setting it to 500MB Boot partition. |

Try disabling idefix. (confirm with 'version scsi.device' afterwards that it is removed, as it can be resident. Idefix version is 116.x)
IDEfix patches scsi.device and makes it incompatible with devices identifying themselves as removable media (some CF cards and SD-IDE adapters). My 4gb version of the same card identifies as fixed media, but you never know. It is still strange that hdtoolbox cannot see it in WinUAE. Can you confirm what you are using as WinUAE IDE driver and hdtoolbox SCSI_DEVICE_NAME tooltype? (IDE0 driver and real amiga requires scsi.device, UAE driver requires uaehf.device) Edit: IF it works with IDEfix disabled, but you prefer it enabled, Doobrey's IDEfix patch removes the bug. Edit 2: From your first post it sounds like you have a working 4gb card. Can you confirm it shows up in hdtoolbox in exactly the same setup? Last edited by fgh; 02 December 2011 at 10:33. |
