Laser Squad and Populous are the greatest slower games I can think of. Agree that Damocles was pretty good too.

Going off-topic (I'll move A-Train posts to a new thread if need be), but I have been playing the 3DS A-train version by short bursts for a few months. Pretty enjoyable.

Back in the days, I was given a pirated version of the Amiga A-train. It did grab my interest, but other games (Civilization notably) grabbed it even more at the time. And since it was a pirated version I had no manual.

If someone has played the Amiga version and some recent editions, I would interested to know if the Amiga version is worth investing some time in to learn how to play or if recent editions more or less cover the same gameplay experience?

Then you have your classic point and click adventures - Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis - one of THE best games ever / storyline / characters - love it, love it, love it

Last Crusade adventure was ok but spoiled by the fist fights

A game which is over looked is Floor 13 very atmospheric and not many UK political games were made in the Amiga's lifespan. This goes dark, hire hit squads and plant fake news. Decent.

Plus how relaxing is a round of PGA European Tour

Zany Golf too - criminally underrated - bit sluggish and could have been soooo much better (and more courses)

Yes, I do think the PC / CDROM version (the talkie one!) is the best - but at the time, even with all those disks, it was a joy to play on the Amiga (and trying the different paths)

I still replay the PC version every so often, great feeling when you put those instruments into place (in line with Plato's book) in Crete to open up the secret entrance

The definitive point and click old skool adventure

No, the best versions of Lucasfilm / LucasArts adventure games are the FM-Towns versions

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is a unique masterpiece!
I've also played it mainly on the Amiga back then, and then replayed the talkie version on PC.
As for other Graphic Adventures, like Beneath a Steel Sky, Loom, the two Monkey Island and so on

But yes, I'd say that ALL graphic adventure games fall into the definition of "slow-paced".
As many rpgs a well, for example, have you played the two Legend titles, The Four Crystals of Trazere and Son of th Empire, it's like go and save the world, but...take your time, no rush haha
I liked those two, although the spell creation system was awful.

And also, for strategy, Vikings: Fields of Conquest, but I didn't play this one that much, screenshots look cool.

Oh and by the way, I forgot Castles and one of my personal all time favourites, Centurion: Defender of Rome!

I quite enjoyed High Seas Trader a few months back. Gets a bit samey after a while but definitely reasonably paced and one you can sometimes play while doing something else.

Is there a story behind this quest, Fenris?

Silent Service
Full Metal Planete (Great game!)
Celtic Legends
The Patrician
The Perfect General (now that is slow)
Space Crusade
Hero Quest
Ports of Call
Oil Imperium
KGB
Powerplay
Neuromancer
Black Crypt
Waterloo
Dreadnoughts
Steel Empire/Cyber Empires (in strategy mode) (Great game!)

Great suggestions Angus.
A story behind? Yes. A thrilling story? No

I was just scrolling through the WHD loads of several games, and since there are many Action/Side scrollers/Fighting/Top down shooters and so on (nothing against them, I love many of those titles as Alien Breed 2 and more).

So I was trying to recollect all the slower paced games, aside from some obvious choices, that might hold up and compete with early PC games of similar genres, as strategy, RPGs and so on

What about something like Scrabble?

I have always enjoyed that word game and we played it back in the day as a family, so I was after a computer version, initially on Steam, but it seems it was discontinued, so I remembered there was an Amiga version, so I tried it out, and it's a really good time, if you like games where you just sit and think. What's more, the built-in dictionary is huge, so there's plenty of challenge with just the computer, and you can set the difficulty level of your computer opponent.

I enjoyed Shanghai and Ishido. I also play Archipelagos now and again but the music really scared the crap out of me as a kid so I can't play it for too long without freaking out unless I turn the music off.

Ah, understood.

Hmmmm...... Xenomorph anybody? Not played it for years, it looked pretty slick, and was a sort of SF attempt at Dungeon Master - though I didn't really get amywhere with it.
