Eek Tensai

Does anyone remember a game called Tensai from Grandslam? I played a demo of it once, but I don't know if it was ever released.

You were this barbarian chap who could do magic like firing fireballs and stuff. It was great.

Maybe it was released under a different name? Or maybe it was canned? Or maybe I just missed it :P

Cheers guys

I don't believe it was ever released. It was slated for a November 1993 release and was prviewed in the August 93 issues of CUAmiga and The One. Anyone know where the demo is?

Eek Tensai demo located

I want to bring this old thread back to life because after years of searching I finally found the Tensai demo on the net. It can be found in the unreleased games-link on this French site.
Along with Tensai also demos of unreleased games like Crimetown Depths, Super hero and Project G2 can be found.

I've never visited the site before. I was looking for some screenshots of an unreleased Amiga game, Son Shu Si, at a site devoted to Loriciel where I found this link. I am so glad I've finally found the Tensai demo. It's been almost 12 years since I last saw the demo. So much potential...

Roll eyes (sarcastic) Cheered too early

Oi! I finally wanted to download the demo. It is in RAR-format and seems to be protected with a password. Can anyone get this game unpacked?

Yup. In the zone - as standard zip file.
(I love standards )

[edit] HOL entry done!
If this game only had been released!
It's really addictive as hell , and it reminds me a bit of those Bitmap Bros. platformers.
Moreover, I've yet to see such a PERFECT PREVIEW! Not to mention that the demo is real huge. I could play level 1 until the very end (note: you *cannot* defeat the grizzly!) and there were absolutely no bugs!

Happy I've played The Game

Thanks for putting the zip-file in The Zone, Andreas. I've played it and watched the screenshots in HOL. The game is EXACTLY the way I remember it. I saw it running 11 years ago on someone's Amiga at a monthly copy-party. First I thought it was a sequel to Team 17's Assassin, but seeing it for a while, it reminded me of the screenshots of Tensai in CU Amiga (See my post in an old thread at 26 Feb 2002).

It is great this preview has finally come to surface after all those years.

Question No bugs eh?

I couldn't get this to run at all on my real Amiga or under most of my emulator configs.

The whole file relocator routine is one huge bug. Screen just fills up with garbage and you have to reset. The stack is placed into the middle of a table of low interrupt vectors meaning if any kind of interrupt occurs it corrupts the values and the game crashes. It's full of useless disk code checking drives and to see which ones are ready, loops through the memory list trying to find extra memory which it then completely ignores anyway and assumes 1Mb chip, and there are some raster line bugs at some points where you see an entire purple line across the display.

On the positive side, once it does work (I had to write a WHDLoad patch to get it to run!) it is smooth, and if it had more enemies, more varied backgrounds and some sound it would have been quite an interesting game.

It ran from the first second on my A1000.
Sure it *may* have shown some problems on 1200/4000.

*knock knock*
Hey! Wake up!
It's a preview!
Exactly *this* has been written on the so-called "title screen" of the preview!

It is also great that people like you are always on the lookout to find mag reviews, then pushing people to dig out those forgotten pearls. I like that.
(I have too few mags to "dig" into )

That's no excuse for a game (potentially released a few months down the track from the date of the demo) not working on AGA machines more than a year after they started coming out.

It'd be like releasing a PC game now and it not working on Windows 2000 or XP.

Well ... took a quick look at this ... BUT ...

http://eab.abime.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=1919

... Merely the middle screenshot refers to the level I played, neither the left or right one. There were no human enemies involved (yet), at least in that level on the coverdisk.
OR ... they might indeed have had a version on the test machines that was WAY more advanced than the one shipped on coverdisk!
