EAB/Lemon Super League 2019 Round 1: Game Vote

EAB/Lemon Super League 2019 Round 1: Game Vote
Starts: 12:01 December 30th 2018 Finishes: 11:59 January 13th

Welcome to Season XII of the English Amiga Board's and Lemon Amiga's joint Super League!

There are 3 notable changes for the new season:

1. All Rounds and voting threads now run from Sunday 12:01 pm (NOON) to Sunday 11:59 am (NOON) Greenwich Mean Time (so 13:01 to 12:59 Central European Time)!
This means you can have a last session at the current game on Sunday morning and then start the new game after lunch.

2. Last season's games aren't allowed anymore in "Open" rounds. So they are more like Open* rounds now.
That's to prevent from turning this into the F1 Super League. Half of the participants love F1GP, the other half seems to hate it. This year it'll make a pause (there's still Indy 500 to play though...).

3. The 4th Special Round (Round 13) has been changed from a Double Open Round into a "Modern Games > 1995" Double Round.
Round 9 is now a Genre round: we'll play a golf or a tennis game (of course the genre will change each year).
Here's the new 2019 Season Schedule.

Rules

Full rules are here.

Vote for five games.

Your first choice gets 5 points, second 4 pts, third 3 pts, fourth 2 pts, fifth 1 pt.

Remember to choose games suitable for competition play. Edited votes will be discounted (unless told otherwise) so think before you post. Please only vote on one board - either EAB or Lemon.

If a game comes in ECS and AGA versions, please state your preference in your vote. In the event the versions differ gameplay-wise, the version with most votes will be played. ECS is the default if you don't specify.

Because rexsu won Round 14 of the last season (MAX Rally) he has double voting power.

Tactical or nosey voters can see the Lemon voting thread here.

1. Rock'n'Roll (time trials of selected suitable levels)
2. Atomino (highest level/lowest score might be the best system for this game, although it loops the same two levels after about level 60 [not sure exactly when] and we would have to post scores when we reach this point and not go further)
3. Jaguar XJ220
4. Datastorm
5. Dyna Blaster

Yes there still are double rounds: every Special Round is a double round (see Season Schedule).

Here's my vote:

1. Bolo Mrówkojad
2. Pinball Illusions
3. Rock 'n Roll
4. Jaguar XJ220
5. Turrican

Doesn't it have a scoring system?

I don't think so. There's a "completion percentage" at the end of each mission, but no score like in an arcade game

Okay, thanks. We could make a formula consisting of: level reached + percentage of last completed level + remaining time but that'd probably be not very practical.

So I've just changed it to Turrican.

1- Shadow of the Beast -> How far have you been (screen-shot). If finished, screen-shot of energy left when beast have been defeated.
2- Spell Bound (Psy/clapse/gnosis)
3- Army moves
4- Bomb Jack Beer Edition
5- The sentinel (Firebird) -> Reached level number (+ all codes you get since the beginning of the game)

Last edited by malko; 02 January 2019 at 16:45. Reason: Replaced "Ziriax" (already played) by "Army moves"

Since you can pause the game at any point pressing 'P' this sounds feasible. Let's give it a try (should it get voted we'll work out the scoring system in actual numbers).

I can think of a thousand reason why this wouldn't work but I would love it if it did work. Maybe we could come up with a custom scoring system based on items in the players possession when they die (i.e. you need the key in your possession before heading off to the plains, or you get fewer points).

Realistically though, this is simply going to be ranking each player from first to last based on their progress, which is going to mean analysing screenshots to work out who got furthest (can you tell all the different parts of the plains or the castle apart via screenshot?).

This would work easier on SotB II as the possessions you have denote progress (i.e. if do you have the ale/parchment/ring/end-boss-weapon? You can give points depending on what is in their inventory), on SotB I this would be a bit of a challenge.

We could watch a longplay and pick specific landmarks which would signify the beginning of "stages". We could then divide the game into e.g. 20 stages. Every stage reached gives 1,000 points.

And also factor in items that should be in your possession when you reach a certain stage.

These maps have no enemies so there is still the surprise. Items are mentionned.
May help divide the game in "stages".
