Question Winuae 2.0 and Vista 64

Hi all, I've installed the latest version of winuae but I cannot get it to start. I had no problems whatsoever with 1.6.1. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have Cloanto's AF 2009 package installed as well as Winuae 2.0. I try to start and I get absolutely nothing, I changed to admin and even checked XP compat tab.

edit: I noticed that I had several instances of Winuae running in the background, I've shut them all down but I am still I not having any luck getting it to run, also I am now having problems with 1.6.1.

I guess it's possible, I have my system loaded with Windows defender, spybot, ccleaner and Avast antivirus 5.0. I never had any problems with Winuae until now, It's trying to run but it gets placed in the background.

I give it shot though, thanks as always.

I uninstalled spybot and ccleaner, No luck, should I put Winuae in my 32 bit programs files folder?

i recently had a problem like this and a reinstall of my display drivers cured it. You snould check the bootlog see if it gives you any clues to where it's failing

winuaebootlog.txt is probably truncated if it freezes while writing. Try running winuae with -log -logflush command line parameters.

Drop down to the command prompt. Navigate to the directory where you installed WinUAE, enter the command line
WinUAE -log -logflush
and press return.

Thanks Prowler. I was successful but what do I with this information?
It shows all the available display modes, but they are listed twice. Is this the root of the problem? Thanks again for the assistance.

edit: I am still having the same problem, but one thing I just noticed, when I shut down Winuae in processes is has an asterix attached to it, e.g. Winuae.exe *32.

Attach the logs to a post in this thread for Toni to study and maybe he can advise you what the problem is.

That's just informing you that it's a 32-bit application. There is a 64-bit variation of the latest beta available.

Thanks again Prowler, How do I import that information to my desktop?, also when I complete that how do I attach the file to one of my posts?

Ok, I guess I need to get out my "dunce cap".

Edit: I'm starting to smell a rat, and that rat is nvidia, to avoid further confusion I'm going to back some data and do a complete system restore, I report my findings later today. I'd like to thank everyone that has helped thus far.

When you said that all the available display modes were listed twice, what file/text were you looking at then?

Edit1: Sorry for asking a question in reply. I'm not very familiar with the latest versioins of WinUAE.

Hang in there, I'm not going anywhere. We'll get there in the end.

Edit2: It is usual to attach the winuaebootlog.txt and winuae.log files along with your config.uae file.

To attach files, use the Manage Attachments button in the panel below the Input Panel, and navigate to the directory where the files are found on your hard disk (usually where WinUAE was installed or in one of its subdirectories).

Dunce cap?
Dude, it's Windows which is complicated here!

Indeed you need to know that you have to mark the text in the debug log window by dragging the mouse, and press the right (!) mouse button to copy it (silently) to the clipboard! CTRL-V will fire the text you want into a vanilla text file in $yourfavoriteeditor.
I do assume this is far from obvious. And CTRL-C pressed *in* the log window (that's what I had tried many moons ago) will copy zilch!

Besides, he is right.
WinUAE indeed gives somewhat redundant information in the log! It looks like this on my box (what an ancient card, huh ):

Code:
Enumerating display devices..
'Primary Display Driver' 'display' NULL
'NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200' '\\.\DISPLAY1' 67685559-3106-11D0-B97100AA00342F9F
Sorting devices and modes..
Desktop: W=1600 H=1200 B=32. MaxW=1768 MaxH=1200 CXVS=1600 CYVS=1200
0: 320x200, 8-bit (!58,67,70,73)
...
77: 1768x992, 32-bit (60,!70,!72)
'Primary Display Driver (1600*1200)', 78 display modes (enabled)
Desktop: W=1600 H=1200 B=32. MaxW=1768 MaxH=1200 CXVS=1600 CYVS=1200
0: 320x200, 8-bit (!58,67,70,73)
...
77: 1768x992, 32-bit (60,!70,!72)
'NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (1600*1200)', 78 display modes (enabled)
Neither do I understand the meaning of this double output.

Well, after a complete system restore it still doesn't work. I guess my Amiga days are over. I just cannot understand why it doesn't work.

Edit#2 I even unistalled my anti-virus. No spybot, Ccleaner or Spybot. Any other sugestions would be great. I'm going to try on my XP box, if that doesn't work I'm going to fly to new york, climb the empire state building and do a header..Just kidding hehe.

Edit#3 Works fine on my XP box, F&^K!

Thanks Toni for the expert help. After uninstalling the software that comes with my card Winuae now works! The unusual thing is I had a setup that worked perfectly, namely with 1.6.1.

I'd like to thank everyone is this fine community for all the "expert assistance". Like I shared with TCD in a private message; it's wonderful to be such a great community like this one. I am a member in another forum and some of the members are not so kind and helpful.

I am still trying to figure out if I can use some of the software programs that comes with my card, most of it is just fluff, but Wave Studio 7 is a must. Thank everyone especially Prowler.

Sandblaster X-fi Titanium champion, Fataility edition.

http://www.soundblaster.com/products...&product=17813 Sorry, about the Web link, I placed it here to give Toni the most up to date specs of my card.
