A600 HardDrives >4GB
I'm sure this subject has been talked to death, I've done a little research before writing this.
I have a 2Mb A600 vanilla 68000, KS3.1 (40.63), 20Gig internal IDE drive. I've run the following two programs Code:
>check4gb scsi.device 0 scsi.device unit 0 supports TD64 commands scsi.device unit 0 supports SCSI-Direct commands Code:
>checkhd Name Volume Device Unit Size >4GB DosType Version HD0 Workbench scsi.device 0 499 MB No DOS\03 40.1 ok HD2 Workbench scsi.device 0 1.53 GB No DOS\03 40.1 ok Do I also need a newer version of HDToolbox (v40.4)? I can only see 2GB with the current one (or will that fix itself with a newer version of FFS?) Any suggestions appreciated. Bear in mind that I cannot use OS3.5+ OR SFS as I dont have a 68020+ CPU. |

The total number of blocks, calculated from heads * cylinders * sectors, should be around 40,000,000. After that HDToolbox should see the entire disk. Create a <2GB boot partition (500MB will be enough for all future purposes) and install IDEfix on it (as you probably already have done). Then get the FFSTD64 patch from Aminet and install the patched FFS with HDToolbox's Add/Update button. Now you can partition the rest of the drive. However, IIRC there is still a limit for partitions which is either 2GB or 8GB, I don't know. |

I dont have anything installed... however my workbench disks are marked v3.11 (dunno if that matters)?
It's an IBM DTNA 22160 2.5" drive. The Harddisk says 4200 cylinders. HDToolbox says Code:
Partition HD0 Start Cyl: 2 End Cyl: 1014 Total Cyl: 1015 Partition HD1 Start Cyl: 1016 End Cyl: 4199 Total Cyl: 3184 Last edited by alexh; 22 December 2004 at 17:22. |

I think I've screwed up.... I think my drive is only 2.1 gig
I wondered why it was only £5 |

And yes, the drive is only 2GB. So you don't need to worry about the 4GB limit. :-) |
