Possible Problem with Second Hand A604

Hey Guys,

I brought some amiga 600 stuff 2nd hand on another forum.

I got an ACA630, A604 and an Indivision ECS.

From the posts from the seller I know he was having some stability issues. And never could get the 600 to run stable. He presumed it was his 600. I know he actually got the ACA630 from another user who had overclocked it slightly.

So the ACA630 or the old Amiga 600 would be the obvious candidates for the problem.

I got the stuff and my Amiga 600 seems more stable than his but I was still having occasional problems. One problem in particular was FightnSpirit (which takes advantage of 2MB of chip) would not run It would just crash after the initial screens. I had this set up on my WinUAE working so I know it was nt the software.

I removed the ACA630 the obvious source, still crashed.
Removed indivision, still crashed.
Removed A604 worked.

Added back my old 1990 original 2MB chip ram expansion + The aca630 and runs well.

The system seems much stabler with my original mem expansion. So thinking there is a problem with the A604. What other games could I use to test if access the 1MB chip on the expansion causes a crash.

Can anyone else get FightnSpirit (or 2MB chip games) to work with the A604 ?

I would assume the A604 would be one of Independents more stable products for the 600 as it is quite simple in comparison to ACA620/ACA630/Indivision.

Any advice on what you guys think I should do if there is a problem with the A604 ?

Hi,

I can test this Game later as I have an A604. It sounds like the 604 could be at fault, you should run a memory test on the Chip Ram to confirm, there are a few on Aminet.

The A604 might still be under warranty, you should check with the seller when they bought it, if so they might be able to arrange with the reseller by raising a ticket for a return/repair.

Steve.

Hey Steve,

thanks for the info. Sounds like looking up a mem test program would be the first port of call.

If you tested the game that would be amazing.

The A604 is a fairly new product isnt it ? Might well be under a year old.

I think it's about 1 year since they came out so fingers crossed!

I'll report back later as I have my A600 setup already at the moment
