Game Speed
We are playing using a hacked version of the game which runs at 16fps. This means its even more unplayable on an A500/600 than before, but if anyone really needs a stock 8fps version for their machine, just PM me with what you need (ADF, WHD, EXE).

68000 - This is going to be slow, see above.
68020 - Press ALT+D twice to turn graphic detail down to low.
68030 - The game speed is good at full detail.
68040/60 - The game is noticeably smoother at full detail.

Note: This is a hack of the PAL game, the NTSC machines can run the Grand Prix races at 20FPS, while in PAL land we only get 16FPS. I guess with NTSC and 20FPS this would be the ultra experience.

Scoring
For F1GP, you dont have to convert your times into who seconds like usual. The game will give the option to view the race times at the end of each race. You MUST at least complete the race distance and be on the same lap for your time to count. The first place position will be listed, e.g. 10:15.738. The second place might be +00:02.847, so if you arrived in second, your score would be 1018585. This makes it a lot easier, as we can see your total time was 10mins 18secs at a glance of the score. If the winners time and your time are not on the same screen, you can take an image of the winning time, and a separate image showing your time.

Your total would be the combined time from both circuits:

Silverstone: xx:xx.xxx
Suzuka: xx:xx.xxx
--------
Total: xxxxxxxxx

Note: This is the F1 2002 Championship, as I could not find the datafile for the 1988-1993 seasons, and the 1994 datafile was without Senna. Hopefully this is ok as a compromise, as we get to BE Senna. No fancy wheel assist dots or anything, just the dotted line is there to help you.

Cutting:
Please do not cut the track in order to have the fastest times. If you fall over the final chicane in Suzuka by mistake, thats ok, as you slowed down but missed the turn - but cutting Silverstone or Suzuka is not sporting and not in the spirit of the compo. I choose cuttable courses because they are fun to drive, but I dont want to regret that by folks cutting.

TIPS:
- Practice F1GP to get to know the tracks, using free practice mode.
- Qualify 1st and it makes the game very easy until back markers.

Suzuka: 2,051,813 (20:51.813)

Suzuka went quite well and Silverstone didn't. Didn't spin, but drove just too cautiously. And back markers are definitely horrible!

Just a note to say I added 4444444 to my score as a penalty for not yet completing both races. This means my combined score is higher than el pasi in the scoring system, and ensures he takes the lead. Hopefully the penalty system means the scores are fair.

Yes, but the 25FPS PAL version doesnt work in Grand Prix mode, only Practice. The 16FPS version works in all modes.

Congrats on breaking 1000 league points btw. John4p is on 973 points in rank #2.

Looking forward to it, I am shocked at how addictive this round is going to be for me.

Oh I didn't know that! 16fps still plays nice, I think the last time we played it was probably my favourite round of the competition so far

Yeh I seen the league points spat out an extra digit, though think I'll be swiftly overtaken soon.. but not in this round if I can help it

Silverstone: 2,025,325 (20:25.325)
Suzuka: 4,444,444 (DNF)

Fairly clean run, aside from a few cars playing hard to get.. stock setup for now.

Not in this year either as you're still 40+ points ahead.
Congratz for being the first to break 1000 points!

Thanks john, i will hold on to rank 1 for at least a little longer then

Suzuka race was eventful, had a scrap with a couple of drivers, went fishtailing in the grass for a while and almost spun a few times.

@Lifeschool: I uploaded some F1GP seasonfiles so next time we could compete "Senna-seasons" 1989-93, if you find these usable. Or edit these to be usable I have downloaded some files from Aminet and edited myself rest. Seasons 1980-1985 aren't fully finished, at least colours of some teams are totally wrong. There's also new seasons including 2017.

Slightly better in Silverstone. Only twice car became lawnmover, so I'm lacking speed...

Suzuka: 2,051,813 (20:51.813)

Thanks! I tried looking for these but couldnt find them. The ones you sent worked except for 1990, which somehow has Jacques Villeneuve was driving for Willams. If you have the 1990 file, just PM me and I'll gladly take it. I found the helmet colours, pit crew and most of the cars were perfect, but I had to change the latest Mercedes cars to have light green sides instead of medium green sides to look right. Some of the 90s cars would also have to be updated with the newer raised nose, which I think can only be done for one or all cars as a global option.

Yes you can, and you probably will tomorrow.. if you havn't already
I think lots of slipstream will be key to sub 20!

Currently on Suzuka. Had to learn that track almost from scratch since I never played it much in the past. First need to get a competitive time there before I try Silverstone again. With this scoring method beating 20 minutes is really worth it since 1,959,000 means 41k less than 2,000,000.

Or just luck with the traffic. Makes a huge difference if you encounter an opponent on an impossible-to-overtake part of the track or on a straight. Even worse on Suzuka with its narrower road.

Come to think of it we really must change the scoring method for this game since as it is it's just plain unfair.

Example:

Player 1 gets times of 20:02 on both tracks - his score will be 4,004,000.
Player 2 has a time of 19:59 on Suzuka and 20:35 on Silverstone - his score is 3,994,000 despite being 30 seconds slower in total than player 1...

Self-fulfilling prophecy? Basically got the score from my example now:
