Next Gen CD32 + New CD32 Games

ok... I know some of you may already know this info but for those that didn't I thought I would point out that there is a rather interesting development happening over on kickstarter right now that caught my attention. I knew something good was cooking for us Amiga fans when I read the opening line;

"The ultimate all-in-one-Retro console with a built-in DVD-RW drive to run games for Amiga CD32, Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn*, Sega CD*, TurboGrafx* and more"

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...e-raspberry-pi

I mean, I love the CD32 but who in this day would put Amiga CD32 as the opening console in the first paragraph. You would of thought Playstation or PC Engine for example. So immediately this caught my attention and I spoke to the creator.

"This is basically my idea of an next gen Amiga CD32" Pascal said.

CD32 games will run straight from the device.
It gets better.
There are new games coming. And they are going to work on the CD32! The first one is starting to look the business called Projekt Lila.

"the indieGO!'s DVD drive is there to run cd-games because we will release more stuff for cd32 and I hope to extend the small niche we are living in. So with luck we can sell 500CD's which would allow to invest 'much' more into graphic, sound and development next time."

Pascal then went to talk about the next game for CD32 after Project Lila "I have already a new project in the pipeline but no free developer... So after Projekt Lila will be ready with a pause of a few month another game inspired by alien breed will follow. Also for 68k amigas / CD32."

Now I always have a fondness for the CD32 and I always felt it never had the lifespan it should of. We should of seen more, better games pushing the system. Its great to see someone is sharing this enthusiasm and bringing a new "next gen" if you like CD32 to the market.

A raspberry pie 2 with a cd-rom. Nothing special and with raspberry pies mediocre amiga emulation. I would have to wait and see video of it running cd32 before I make up my mind.

Interesting, at least the Odroid XU4 version. It's $50 more but with much better CPU/GPU.
The Case is boring unfortunately, but probably just a "good enough" off the shelf thing. We've all learned that custom molds are expensive ;-)

However, as much as I like old consoles, these "multi-emulation devices" (things like the Retron 5), while certainly practical, don't quite "do it" for me ;-)
I'll keep an eye on this one even though you could probably build one yourself as the hardware is simply put together from off the shelf parts.

Edit: FYI, They say that the UX4 version can emulate Dreamcast at full speed.

to be honest yes I am with you there. I have backed the Odroid XU4 version however I am more interested in seeing the new games run on the original CD32 system.

I don't get the need to crowdfund projects based on off the shelf stuff . What's the point here? to buy some CD-ROMs and a case?

Just buy a Raspberry Pi 2 and make this work yourself.

Just seen more info on the games. All will run on Amiga CD32. All 3 new games due this year.

Project Lila
Oh No More Aliens
Dudes on Fire

"One Alien Breen inspired top down shooter called "Oh No! More Aliens" which is basically a parody on Alien Breed with a bit of humor inspired from Zombies Ate my neighbors.

The second game is called "Dudes on Fire" which is inspired by Ikari Warriors."

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/1478509

Everything looks very promising... now cant wait to see actual gameplay footage!

Does anyone know if they've actually got CD32 games running on this device or a standard Raspberry Pi 3? The reason I ask is that I have an AMD E-350 system running at 1.6 ghz that can struggle to play some Amiga games at full 50hz speed using WinUAE. For some games/demos I need to revert back to an older (less accurate) version of WinUAE to avoid slowdown (especially the Jim Power title sequence shown on their site).

If they intend to play Amiga/CD32 games with frame skipping to achieve full speed then there is no point IMHO.

Incidentally, I can run the following emulators with the majority of games running fine on this mini-PC: Amstrad, Apple2, Mame, Atari 2600/5200/7800/800/Lynx/ST, Colecovision, Commodore 64/Amiga, Gameboy Advance, Intellivision, MSX, Nintendo NES/SNED/64, Visual Pinball, Playstation, Sega GameGear/megaDrive/SMS, ZX Spectrum, plus PC games like Call of Duty MW2, Quake 4, Dirt 2, etc. It is probably the lowest spec PC that I could recommend for a retro-gaming/HTPC.

Available to buy now.

http://www.amiga-shop.net/Amiga-Soft...dcef3aba71f60e

Not cheap enough to take a chance on, so will wait before a demo becomes available to try it out first or wait until people review it.

I think, it isnt Backbone... The collision Detection is without any failure, it supports 2 Button pads and the pause Button on the CD32 joypad. Graphics like 8 bit, but cool and the Music is phenomenal! Ive tried the First Level...
