Contra Amiga
I saw a reference to this in a closed thread and opened this one to clear up the question.
Konami developed a number of its early computer games for the Amiga, and the screens from several of these (Contra, Rush'n Attack and possibly Ajax come to mind) graced the boxes of other versions. This has led many to assume that the games were released for the Amiga. They weren't. I talked to Konami about this back in the mid '90s when doing a story about unreleased Amiga games for Compute!, but don't recall getting a solid answer. There are all kinds of possibilities. My best guess is that the Amiga was simply the development system--not a target system. (Konami wasn't all that high on the Amiga as a games machine in the mid-to-late '80s.) Hope that's helpful! @Peter Olafson
now thats interesting, thanks for the info Peter , i figured for a lot of late 80's 8/16bit games the Amiga was a development platform for Sega MD / NES and SNES etc. I would like to know if any Playstation games were developed in anyway on the Amiga ? hmmmm Oh BTW.... Welcome to the EAB |

I got some e-mails from James Anderson (Konami USA/Product Planning Manager) last month. He was a big Amiga fan too, but can't remember anything about the plans for Contra. Promised me to asked around the company, but it seems he found no infos.

The Sony dev tools run on PCs... but you never know if someone tinkered with DPaint somewhere at the back

I'm guessing the Amiga would of only been used as a DEV machine for the Sega Genesis in the western states and not in Japan/Asia?

in response to a deleted post (not at my request) which accused me of trolling....
I was serious, I hope it is purchased to prove everyone else wrong. Since evidence beforehand for the existance of Amiga Contra relied highly on an e-bay listing and some screenshots stating 'amiga version' , this sale surely has all the proof to show its existance does it not? |

hopefully someone will be 'clever' enough to pay it.... you know, just to be sure, right? Obviously they'll have to ignore the fact the box clearly states 'IBM TANDY 1000' on the front. I very much doubt -even- any developers would have kept any Amiga version myself. But $300 isnt too much to prove me wrong is it? |

Well, the IBM version needed some Deluxe Paint "fake shots". I guess this wasn't an uncommon method to sell at least SOME copies. Check the graphics:

mmmhh well if we look at the DOS screens from mobygames and the ones at the back of the box, it COULD be amiga screens... but i'm not that sure that anyone wants to pay
such a fee for a rubbish game |

when my Amiga copy of Bloodwych says "Atari ST Screenshots" on the back, and features all of the heros in the wrong colours, wrong positions and with mis-named spells, i am still expecting to find the Amiga version i know and love inside the box.
I dont slap it on e-bay for $300 and call it "the rare Commodore Atari version". |
