Mouse thats as good as my PC one??

Hey guys,

Anyone know of a way (thats £50 tops) to get a preision mouse running on a 1200?

I ask as the worst this about using my 1200 is the mouse is clunky to say the least. Im spoiled by todays computers and on my laptop I can move my finger and the mouse goes exactly where Iexpect it to 99 times out of 100.

On my 1200 it goes within a CM of where I want. This gets really urksome. Maybes back in 92 thats all I knew and didnt care. But these days its killing me.

Im currently using a ball and socket mouse from back in the day that no doubt wont help anything.

Probably best to look at a converter of some sort and use a modern mouse.

The only mouse from that era I could consider modern to use is the Wizard 3-button one. These still feel perfectly reasonable today as far as the speed and precision goes. But of course it is still a ball mouse so it will gather lint and stuff over time.

Thanks. SO what would be best? Modern mouse and convertor or the one in your pic?

Well, it's really a matter of preference. As I still have several of the Wizard mice in working order, I use those. They are "original" and all that. But I don't know if it's worth tracking one down now, considering PS2/USB mouse adapters are quite inexpensive, as are the mice. Maybe other people can weigh in also.

I use both Wizards and re-built optical mice. Both work good enough for me.

Would never want to use a bog-standard 200-dpi mouse, though.

I've been using a converted Microsoft bus mouse from 1996 or so, still works great but it is a ball mouse, buttons are still nice and clicky with great sensitivity. PS/2 adapters work well and some of them give you mousewheel support, but sometimes the motion is not smooth.

Thanks guys. Cant find one of them wizzards anywhere. Even past listings on Ebay.

Anyone please link me to what I need to do the PS2 adapter optical thing?

I personally dont need a middle button or wheel.

Thanks everyone

The easy way:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Amiga-USB-P...B/231881855017
I use this with an MX518 mouse which supports the PS/2 protocol. Very smooth operation.

Alternatively you can build your own converter circuit:
http://aminet.net/package/docs/hard/mouseps2

I built this and integrated it inside a Logitech Optical mouse so now it works just like any other Amiga mouse, except being a bit more modern.

I don't think the Unifying receiver supports the PS/2 protocol. I just tested my Jerry adapter with a Logitech M705 mouse which also has a Unifying receiver and it did not work.

You can also get a TOM+ adapter which uses the USB HID protocol instead of PS/2. It is a bit more expensive but should support most USB mice.
TOM+:

There are also alternatives like the Rys MkII:

This is the official supported model list:
http://electronica4u.com/docs/tom_to...devices_en.txt

The M570 is not on the list (not tested yet) so cannot say for sure, but other devices like the M525 which is supported uses the same Unifying receiver, so I would expect it to also work with the M570.

Accually how about this? I know I have to buy the thing but I can get the cheaper adapter you kindly linked me too. Id prefer wired on the amiga too. Less to go wrong and trouble shoot when it goes wrong.

That should work since it is obviously a PS/2 device, however it doesn't seem to come with an adapter for USB so you should get one of those as well:

Sorry forgot to mention mate. I have this Atari ST PEST thingy that allows you to connect a PS/2 mouse to an atari. And on top of that I have an Atari to Amiga convertor. So hoping this would work with that?

I think pretty much all the retro computers work the same way (quadrature encoders).

I built an Arduino mouse mouse adapter for the Amiga based on some Acorn code. Been too lazy to finish it
It has an Amiga driver for scroll wheel support but I only tested this on my 060 (timing is tight...). My 030 A4000 is sick right now.

From what I can see, the difference between Atari and Amiga is just that some pins are swapped, so I think that should work.
