Thumbs up FIXED Slowdown Problem/Choppy Sound

I think I`ve fixed the choppy sound/Slowdown issue, it seems to be down to the updated SDL.dll library shipped with r3. This version is 1.2.3, you can fix the problem by downloading the latest version (1.2.4) from http://www.libsdl.org/
and copy it over the existing sdl.dll file.

Hope this helps some people.

And toni THX for perservering with the greatest emulater in the world.

Rgds

That seems to be the correct version, I'm thinking it may help resolve some users issues and not others. Until the actual cause of the problem, it would be difficult to find a resolution for it

Floppy disk

You`ve got the right file in 1.2.4 but it seems it only fixes it for some users not others. I`ve also found that with the new SDL library on processor intensive demos like Big time sensuality and laapsus I need to move the sound buffer slider to 5.

hope this at least helps some of you.

My 0.8.21r2 and r3 executables reside in the same directory with sdl.dll thus they both use the same dll yet r2 is faster than r3

Question

Heres a Question.

Does anybody who`s system slows down use DirectX 7 or as I am are they using DirectX 8.1

Its just a thought as thats one of the other things to have changed (directX7 required instead of DirectX 5)

That's a known issue. I've yet to see any comments from users that say that R3 is really faster than R2.
It isn't. Some lucky users might not have realized any speed decrease towards R2, though, but this doesn't have to mean that R3 is faster for them.

I have both under the same directory, and they both run pretty slow/choppy. I gave up using these versions.

My specs: Athon 1.4GHz, 512 Mb, GeForce2 MX, DX8.1,Win98SE
Also Pentium III, 933 MHz, 128 Mb, Win95, Asus something, DX8.1, Win95
and Pentium III, 700 MHz, 192 Mb, TNT2, DX8.1, Win98SE

fissuras, with r2, try not to enable jit as long as it is not necessary and set sound buffer to 4
