How to configure YAM to view my gmail account?

Hey,

I have installed AmiSSL 4.0 into my Amiga and I have a gmail account. How do I configure my gmail account to allow YAM to connect to it and what are the steps I need to configure my YAM to access my gmail account?

I love view checking my emails in my Amiga 500. Thanks in advance.

IMAP is the standard access method for GMail, but is not supported in YAM. What you can do (or at least, could do a little while ago) was to set up POP3 access in your GMail preferences. Once this is enabled you should be able to use the details that GMail gives you to set up your account:

Incoming Mail (POP) Server:
pop.gmail.com
Requires SSL: Yes
Port: 995

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:
smtp.gmail.com
Requires SSL: Yes
Requires TLS: Yes (if available)
Requires Authentication: Yes
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587

One final question. What is the username for pop and smtp in YAM? By the way looking here http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=80651 you said YAM will remove my mails from the server I do not want to do that. What are the configurations I need to do to avoid pulling my mails AWAY from the server? Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.

The username will be the Google login, so myname@gmail.com or whatever. YAM's settings for the account include the option to delete mail on the server. If you disable that it should leave the mail on the server. GMail might also have that option from memory, which probably overrides YAM's settings.

Someone else in MSX community working on IMAP support. I say it is shame if the MSX beat us to it. The Amiga community need to be first to support IMAP in YAM!

I could buy a registration if it enables me to use Amiga to read IMAP!

I would actually go as far as pay in advance and pre-order if they promise the next release will include IMAP! Will not hesitate! Ones IMAP is supported and I can use my emailing system in YAM...my Amiga will be the main system to read emails and send emails. I only want to check majority of my time my emails in my A500 using YAM!

There has already been IMAP support on the Amiga for many years now, just not in YAM, which was the original request. SimpleMail is another open source mailer with fewer feature than YAM, though most features are present, and it supports both POP and IMAP. Clients are available for OS3, OS4, MorphOS and AROS.

My gmail works OK with iBrowse, so I just use that if I need to check my messages on the Amiga. I will have to check out Simplemail - I don't use YAM specifically because it does not support IMAP.
