CDTV LCD vs CRT Comparison

Tried my standard CDTV on a 15 year old Tesco Special CRT TV and a 32" Toshiba Regza LCD TV, both connected via the Composite Video Out (the yellow one).

CRT had an annoying flicker, especially on Workbench. Text and graphics were sharp enough.

LCD had a lot less flicker (not really noticeable from a few feet away) and I think the graphics were a little sharper.

Text was very slightly blurry on both though.

Would the picture be better (sharper) with a proper Amiga RGB Scart Cable? Something like this:

Yes, an Amiga RGB to SCART lead will always give you the best possible display.

Hi,

You would be better getting one of these from Amiga Kit, http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...roducts_id=226
it is wired according to my Amiga SCART cable diagram so works with all LCDs tested so far.

I bought the ebay one. The advert read well and made the same claims as the amigakit one. Hope its ok.

He actually says, works better on CRT and may not work on all LCD's.

I'm sure it'll work on any decent LCD or Plasma. The Amiga video output is about as standard as it gets.

That's a pretty impressive picture quality for Composhit. Anyone who has ever used A520 will know what I mean

Ahhh the good ol A520. Until I got my A600 with RGB scart, I thought RF was amazing,

. Oh to be young and not know much, lol.

Actually, the decent brands of LCD and Plasma play up more I find.

I hope that as I can get my LCD to display ok through composite then it should work with this adapter.

Also my old CRT telly is tucked away whereas I want to keep my CDTV under the main LCD telly

Rest easy, mate. I don't think you'll have a problem with that lead.

That disclaimer about the performance of the lead with LCD TVs is probably due only to their lack of experience with them relative to CRT TVs.

Cable arrived today. At first there was no picture but then I noticed that only one of the two scart sockets has RGB so I swapped my digibox and CDTV around and now it works great.

The picture is absolutely brilliant compared to composite. Text is excellent and graphics are very defined, almost too defined!

Very pleased with that, really made a difference to my CDTV project.

Will post some RGB vs composite photos tomorrow.
