What are unreadable DOS names?
I have a Gamebase collection in my 1541U and I haven't found any problems. Maybe what I have isn't gamebase? In any case, it works just great. And that tool Retroplay posted above seems like the perfect solution for thsoe with IEC devices. Still, 1541U will show MANY more characters, seems to me that issues are mostly with IEC type devices which are limited to show the number of characters of a Commodore disk. There are browsers to do this, this is how most people with IEC devices like SD2IEC use, but they don't have game images (that seems like an impossible task, given the hardware limitations and IEC access speeds) |

Something like this. These are the original Gamebase 64 names for the zips and actual C64 files.
B-17_20807_02.zip B1BOMBER_00521_01.zip B1NUCLEA_00526_02.zip B-24_00522_01.zip BAAL_00527_02.zip BABBUBOB_26476_01.zip BABLEBAL_21446_02.zip BABY_10581_01.zip BABYBLU1_16449_01.zip BABYBLU2_10126_01.zip BABYBLU3_00528_01.zip BABYCAN_00531_01.zip BABYDASH_09946_01.zip BABYGOR_19556_01.zip BABYJACK_00529_02.zip BABYJCK2_21725_01.zip BABYLON-_00534_01.zip BABYLON4_00533_01.zip Retroplay is right. This Reorganizer should do the trick. |

I see!
Yeah I definitely don't have a Gamebase collection then. The one I have was perfectly suited for my 1541U. I can't even remember where I got it from. |

Yup, I've been using it ever since I got my Ultimate-II some 7-8 years ago.
Now if only the Ultimate had some sort of "save to favourites" option for quick access. |

C64 thread! Gotta pick up an Ultimate at some point. I'm pretty sure I can sell my liver to afford one.
So I've been thinking about connecting a Mega Drive/Genesis joypad to the C64 and Amiga. The Amiga should be fine, but I've been reading with the C64 I could fry the CIA chips. Are there any (cheap) adapters I can use to hook one up without having to worry about dead chips? |

I wish SD2IEC had the Ultimate's compatibility. More in my price range. Quote:

The Gamebase reorganizer is suboptimal. You get long folder names, but still have the short file names. But this is an easy fix, e.g. the Total commander can do such tasks like mass renaming folders names to file names.

I've converted GB64 v15 to 1541U & SD2IEC format, including nfo, sids and swaplists for sd2iec.
I'm upping them to my user folder. |

I use the file browser Fibr. It handles filenames much better than FB etc.
It only supports JiffyDos for fast load so make sure you have that. Here's what I do: Boot C64 with JiffyDolphin Press C= + Run/Stop to open the first file on the sd2iec (which is Fibr) Hey presto, all my files in alphabetical order |

Yep, Akira I've downloaded from different places, mostly from CSDB and some names you know what they are, but others you just can't image what the name is or you just don't remember how was that game as you've got many. In any case I don't know how slow a C64 games launcher could be, it shouldn't show all of the images of every game one after another, just a small image when you decide to select one, that was what I was thinking. If an image is too much, then reorganizer seems to do the trick http://www.obliterator918.com/wp-con...5-1024x768.jpg Edit: I wonder about "Screenshot"... has it already been made with that idea? I've got to try Retroplay's compilation, looks great Last edited by Retrofan; 21 March 2018 at 00:04. |

Please enjoy the video story of the worst condition Commodore 64 I've ever seen, going from rags to riches. This is the tale of The Little Commodore That Could:

Wonderful video, very surprising
I used to read years ago an english magazine (practical classics) about restoring rusty vintage cars found in farms and so, and it made me remember that Edit: BTW, your book has arrived Last edited by Retrofan; 12 April 2018 at 00:56. |

I love how you've added the sd card with the leds and lips, but I think you could have avoided that rear "military" kernal switch at the rear part (ahem, I use two of them for the SidFx) using a switchless solution. There is one on Ebay (that I've got) and there's also the Bwack's one (that I plan to use in mine).
Edit: As you said this C= was "dead" (well, my idea is that it was buried alive, but...). It's the perfect candidate to receive tons of mods. What about adding dual Sids and my wonderful VU meter with leds?. You've got my email. Last edited by Retrofan; 12 April 2018 at 01:24. |
