Bored Character Animations
Remember those little animations that were put into games main characters when you left the stick alone for awhile?
They served no purpose at all but were always nice to see and a sign that the developers had put that extra bit of effort in. One that sticks in my mind is the main character in Hook getting out his Gameboy. What other great bored character animations were there? |

yeah, I remember that too from Hook, and he did some other things aswell I believe. Most adventure games has those passive animations, like Indiana Jones, Legend of Kyrandia and most others... also many platform games has them.

In Barbarian, your hero actually told you to "come on!" Classic.
On other systems...Sonic tapped his foot, and Blaze from Streets of rage played with her hair. |

In Marble Madness, if you stay perfectly still on the first level, a ramp rises from under your marble and it sets the marble going.
However this isn't really a waiting character animation.. :-) |

Soccer kid knocks against the players screen to get things goin again.
Cool Spot is reading a news paper after a while. I think the Blues Brothers start to groove after a few seconds. |

Best one (IMO) has to be in Commander Keen 4 (yes, no Amiga game). On one level there are moons drawn on the floor. If you stand still on one of them, keen will look around and then drop his pants to moon you for a second

No-one remembers the IK+ Warriors whose trousers where slipping down after a while?? :-))
On the c64, the main characters of some games by gremlin (like "Future Knight" and "Jack The Nipper II") put their hands to their hip, looked to you and tapped with one of their feet (like Sonic, see above), just showing that they are waiting for movement commands - I don't know if Amiga-games by Gremling Graphics had the same kind of "feature"? :-) |
