And I though $499 was expensive for a quantum prodrive 40S back in the day. I believe those Morrow drives were circa 1980 so thats REALLY old school.
My first hard drive was a Seagate ST157N. It had a whopping 3600rpm and had stiction problems caused by excess lubricant on the drive platters. The centrifugal force of the spinning platter would cause the exess lubricant to be pooled near the edge of the platter. Unfortunately, this is where the hard drive parked the head when the machine was turned off. The Head would stick to this pool of lubricant as the drive cooled down. There were two ways to fix it. Either leave the drive on all the drive, or smack it on the side with a screwdriver while powering up the computer. Good times |
