No worries, I've had to work with irons like that in the past and wouldn't wish it on anyone If he had a lower wattage one available then go for it, and get the smallest tips he has. Soldering cables is one thing but you can never really have too small a tip for doing SMT stuff.
I would strongly recommend practicing on an old PC sound card or graphics card or something, take some capacitors off and replace them and then see if it still works. It'll get you used to the iron without risking the Amiga's motherboard. Pull an old PC out of a skip somewhere if you don't have one lying around |
