roland sc55 - amiga
how do i make the amiga output music to or just sound, complete, to an external midi device like the roland sc 55? what im looking for is something that will not use paula, rather just send all music "sound" mod or otherwise to a midi device? id rather much use a midi device to playback sound than paula. this also includes mp3's, perhaps through another external midi device like an fm synthesizer or so... the main point is id like music through roland, and sfx through paula, or an external fm synthesis......

What you're describing isn't entirely possible, e.g., using a MIDI device to play MP3s. Only MIDI-compatible software can output to a MIDI device. Are you sure it's MIDI you want, though? Outside of music composition/control software, MIDI wasn't used much on the Amiga. In other words, game developers didn't use MIDI for their music output like on DOS/Windows(/Mac?). That said, a simple serial-port MIDI interface should allow the SC55 to work with the Amiga. You may even be able to connect it directly, without the interface - I'm not sure. If you're an avid composer/listener of MIDI files it should fit your needs nicely.
For MP3s, you can offload from Paula with something like the Prisma Megamix card. To redirect other audio output from Paula, you'll need an AHI-compatible audio program and a sound card like the Delfina, Prelude, etc. |
