null Modem cable
Hello,
I have got this Amiga 1200 that i love to send files over to my XP computer. I have had a go with a tool called Amiga - PC Linkup. What comes with a parallel cable , CD / floppy disk. As the tool will not work on XP. I have had a go on old Win98. It installs fine from CD on 98. But keep having a error on my Amiga when coming to install the files. The disk do not boot up any more on my Amiga! So i have been looking all over sites and seen that there is a cable called null Modem cable that is faster and will work on XP by Cloanto Amiga Explorer Tool. What i like to know is!!!.. How do i link this cable up? As it's got two 9 pin + two 25 pin female heads. I hate to go and blow something up. Or would i? I have bought this cable from ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3803149227...84.m1439.l2649 Hope this is the right cable. lol Thank you |

As you see from the diagram there has to be some lines that cross, I would read that over. I made one from scratch, not to hard. Just had a meter , beer and a soldering iron to make those connections! lost |

Take a meter and test continuity when you get it. just make sure all the lines match with the diagram.

It says 9 Pin + 25 Pin Female - 9 Pin + 25 Pin Female Serial cable 25 pin D-Sub (DB-25), 9 pin D-Sub (DB-9) It sounds like the same layout on this cable. DB-9 connector on one end, DB-25 on the other end. What do you say? Am good at soldering. But coming down to make anything from a cable from layout am c**p at. |

i would recommend EasyADF PCMCIA kit from amigakit.com
not too expensive, really easy for file transfer and adf<>floppy transfer works with any PC that you can read a CF on |

The only problem is how to send the Amiga files over to my Amiga so i can install and make a copy of the tool. Hmm dam same i can not get Cloanto Amiga Explorer to work. As i had to install Win98 on my second hard drive. When i have got WinXp and Amiga OS 3.9 on my Master Hard drive. Gone and got this cable from ebay what say's dispatched. I did ask the guy about this cable but he never got back to me. lol |

I may not need to now. Done like you have put on your frist post. I have got my self a USB 2.0 ALL IN 1 Multi CARD READER SD/XD/MMC/MS/CF for my PC what only cost me £2.95 And Amiga 600/1200 Pcmcia Transfer card 512 meg/ADF/whdload/dms/music/demos what cost me £23 All from ebay. So i will do like what you say copy all the files from my pc to my amiga. Then i will keep with the parallel cable. As i will hate to go and blow something up. |

you shouldnt blow anything up... i have been using it for over a year and had no problems converting adfs and transfering WHDLoad installed games etc...
PCMCIA has a quicker transfer rate and i would say more reliable... it seems you have the same illness as me... gotta buy stuff for my Amiga, annoys the shit outta my missis |

They are fairly standard, and even work well with USB/serial adapters on PCs.. That being said, serial (Null Modem is serial) isn't going to be faster than parallel. It's better. Parallel had too many standards (EPP/ECP, etc) and USB/Parallel port adapters almost never work with these type of transfers. But not faster.. If you have any friends in the IT department, particularly in the Networking side, they used to drown in these cables.. Although all the new stuff is ethernet managed, but all the older equipment was serial. desiv |

I think better option is parallel and PC2Amiga (best is a compatible pcmcia ethernet card, they should be cheap)
