Joking.
OK i 'll ask another question. In the Amiga games the music file is very small, some Kb. What is the type of the file? MOD?

Now, if you want to convert MOD to MP3 directly
on the Amiga, then DigiboosterPRo 2.21 can output
16bit AIFF through AHI. Then convert the AIFF to
MP3 using Lame or some other mp3-encoder.

Digibooster will fix the MP3 to MOD-problem as
well, as you are able to import mp3-files as
samples.

why the hard way? Place the mod on the pc, and use Mod plug Tracker to save it as MP3

And indeed, only left over of a MP3 to mod is a sample, a instrument. So you never will be able to edit it

Well, I suppose doing anything on the Amiga nowadays is doing it the hard way.
But it works, so the option is there if you, like me, don't own a PC.

It varies, some games used Mod, some Med, some used custom routines others used dave whittakers format etc..

There were literally hundreds of replay routines used

Bumping this old thread with the same request, maybe there are some great pieces of software nowadays (preferably for Windows) that can convert MOD to MP3, that weren't around back in 2004 when this thread was started? I'm wanting to convert some MOD files so I can use them as ringtones on my cell phone.

And what exactly is the Modplug Player that some people mentioned way up in this old thread?

Just use deliPlayer 2.5 for PC (XP only issues with Vista), key needed for stereo output, to convert tonnes of different formats. Personally I prefer to record them through WINUAE - Protracker, and record them using Nero WavEditor in real time, perfect copy

XMPLAY would be my choice to convert mods to mp3
with a few .dll added to the xmplay folder, you can unpack powerpacked .mods without using the winuae emulator, and with the deliplayer.dll well which incorperates other play routines aswell as unpackers and modpacker.dll aswell and completely freeware.

Thanks, I just downloaded XMPLAY and it seems like a good option. The only problem is, I can only play the files and can't figure out how to save files in other formats, such as the MP3 format?

Goto Options and Stuff, then click on OUTPUT at the bottom, make sure to have encoder LAME installed, basically the lame encoder, should be in the same folder as XMPLAY, then DEVICE: ENCODER LAME, choose the sample format and click apply.
when u play the .mod file, it will be saved as a mp3 file with the same name.

Thats how i converted the star-trek.med file to mp3, that come with octamed.

I use VLC for this. It's an excellent player for all kinds of music and video formats, and it's free and runs on all systems.

Is there way of doing this on Linux?

I am looking to batch convert the entire Amiga Mod Anthology to MP3 and apply a 60% stereo downmix like Stone Oakvalley's (although this is not essential).

I just finished batch converting the entire HVSC, which was easy due to having sidplayfp. Is there a similar tool for Linux which will convert MOD/XM etc at the command line?

Well looks like I found the answer:

http://xmp.sourceforge.net/

http://unix.stackexchange.com/questi...files-with-xmp

Amazing tool!

Still haven't worked out how to apply a 60% downmix yet. I can do this via Audacity and the Stereo Butterfly plugin, but that needs manual intervention. I'm wondering how Stone Oakvalley does it?

You could also try uade ( http://zakalwe.fi/uade/ ) with the mod2ogg2 script (i wrote it eons of time ago, maybe it will still work, and i am sure there was an option for stereo %).

Please note...

# BUGS:
# - Panning is taken only from the config file uade.conf, not with --panning 0.8
# like in the old version of uade. This seems an uade 2 problem

mtb, uade2 looks like it could be a good alternative to xmp.

Got it compiled and installed on a Ubuntu Precise box now.

Looks like I could use the --panning option? I'm just trying to figure out the help page:

Quote:
Set panning value in range [0, 2]. 0 is full stereo,
1 is mono, and 2 is inverse stereo. The default is 0,7.
So a 60% mix would be 0,6 (or 0.6)?

Edit:
Got it!

Ok! Maybe xmp gives better audio quality for mods, but uade reads almost everything.

You can also try the mod2ogg script that should do everything easily.

The make install did appear to put that script in too. I will have a play around with it today.

Interesting to hear you mention audio quality. I guess I am not looking for quality but as close a reproduction to how would it sound on a real Amiga.

For this I should really take a real recording and then compare XMP vs Uade and see which is closest to reference. Thanks for bringing this up!
