Oil Imperium office in 3D recreation

Hi all,

I got an idea that I should try to recreate one of the offices in Oil Imperium in 3D, using Maya. I just started so there's not much to see. I'll use this thread to show how it progresses though.

Next, I'm gonna rough out the Amiga 2000, will have to search for some good reference images and measurements.

In other news I saw a 6-year old kid fell out of a building from the 6:th floor a couple of hours ago... he apparently didn't die, but had severe injuries...

Looking nice! Would it be possible to create an animation of a camera sweeping across the room or something like that when you're done?

I have very little idea how stuff like that works.

Looking real good. I've always liked messing about with renderers since I first tried Real 3D 1.3 on the Amiga, but I was more into materials and lighting and have never had the patience to do detailed models like these.

Are you rendering with an unbiased renderer or does Maya calculate a radiance map or some other general GI solution? How long does the calculation pass take, and how long for rendering successive frames after that?

Laffer, sure I could do a camera sweep animation when I'm done.

Leffman: I played around with Real 3D aswell on the Amiga, but it wan't until I started watching a lot of instruction videos for Maya around 2004 I got really good. I'm using an unbiased render, Maxwell. It takes a little longer to render but you can concentrate on the materials and don't have to fiddle with tons of parameters and try to fake stuff.

The time varies a lot, it heavyli depends on the materials, also indoor renders (a closed space) take a lot longer.

That A2000 took about 15 minutes (there are no walls or ceiling) , but a complex indoors scene usually takes tens of hours.

I'm wondering what the white thing lying to the left on the desk is... first I thought it was some kind of document holder, but now I think it's a folded newspaper, since the newspaper is one of the icons in the ser interface.

I'm trying to guess what kind of monitor it is.... as you can see it has that round adjustment thing under and in the closeup it says "Amiga" to the left. The only one with an "Amiga" logo I could find is the 1081, but that one is monochrome and doesn't have the adjustment thing under it. I found a version of the 1084 that looks sort of like it, but it doesn't have the amiga-logo.

So anyone knows if this is actually a real monitor that exists, or did they just blend two monitors together?

Really? Acoording to this http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showha...cgi?HARDID=847 it was monochrome.... I probably go for that one then since I almost finished a 3D model of a 1084 some year ago.

I am 99.99999% sure I had a 1081 (I lived in Denmark back then) and I know for sure it was not monochrome... and I know it was a Commodore monitor and it was not a 1084

I'm not finished with the modeling but I needed a break from it and started some material tests. Some look like crap at the moment though, but they'll get there in time.
