Beneath a Steel Sky experts - NO SPOILERS PLEASE
*PLEASE DON'T POST A SOLUTION* THANKS
I've been playing CD32 Beneath A Steel Sky for a few days, but have not made any progress for a while. I think I'm about 70% through the game, just before the sewers, I think. I've found the Androids in the church (tried installing Joey) I have poked a hole in a grill at the back of the club, and have the tuning fork tool from cyberspace, and can't get past the Crusader program. Q1. Do I need to do a pixel by pixel search of each location to find something hidden? Q2. Is it possible to get stuck in the game with no chance to proceed? Q3. Is there a relatively logical solution to my situation if I was bright enough to see it? Many thanks. I really want to solve it by myself - but it's getting to the point where I'm spending a lot of time for no benefit. I think I'm after reasurance. Cheers. |

From my experience there's no satisfaction in resolving adventures with help from others
I did the same in the past ..... not a good idea now i should say to be honest |

1. Maybe. Have you gotten into the shed?
2. No. 3. Yes. If only there was a way to widen that hole in the grill... |

1. No, I need a key, apparently. 2. Thought not. :-) 3. Tell me about it!!! :-) Okay, there was a key in the storeroom, with BULWARK written on it but that was either confiscated by the chap outside or if I left it in there, it vanished. Not that key? So from what you say, I'm thinking pixel by pixel search? Probably better not say much more. |

Well, I broadly agree, Chip, which is why I framed the post the way I did. When things stop progressing though, I find playing an adventure quite a lonely place to be. I'm pretty sure some time in the early eighties I eventually called up Level 9, and they said, "Yeah, that's a bug". Not what I wanted to hear after having spent so long on trying to progress. If somebody tells me, "Some of those puzzles you have to move the pointer over EVERY pixel to progress." Or even "It's not so much finding a solution, it's more a case of you just have to keep talking to everybody before you can advance." Then I don't feel a cheat. It's not like they said, "To dismantle the bomb, you have to put the nearby radio on TRANSMIT to slow down the bomb's microprocessor, then cut the blue wire!" The point may come though where one will not invest any more time in a game but would like to know why they failed. I'm not there yet, by the way. But different strokes for different folks as they say. |

I'll just say this: you already have what you need to get into the shed.

Thanks, Matt. That was exactly the help I needed.
Even then, I was convinced that I could strip down the cable (made of strong wire) and pick the lock. I think what threw me initially was that when you examine the lock, it says: "I need a KEY to open this." which I think I saw as a hint from the programmers not to waste too much time on it. But brilliant. Thanks very much, let's see how far I can get. |

Glad to be of help. I'm a bit envious that you get to experience this game for the first time. One of the greats. Enjoy it!

Thanks, I've made quite a bit of progress. Walter and Gallagher are no more, and Joey is now Ken!
Have you tried Rise of the Dragon? I got that recently, it might be something you'd enjoy if you haven't already had the pleasure. |
