Post Personal research about emulation

This is a personal research inside Amiga community
Do you interested in emulation of other systems?
If yes, what ?

Personally, none (for now)

Yup, I'm interested in emulation of other systems

Some of my favorites are :

NeoGeo (NeoRageX)
N64 (Project 64)
MS-Dos (DosBox)
SNES (SNES9x)
Megadrive (Kega Fusion which also includes the Master System and Game Gear)

Don't tend to use emulators too much full stop currently but ones I tend to use include MAME, ZXSpin, DOSBox and WinUAE sometimes (though not much as I tend to use my A1200 more)

On the PC

And NES on the playstation.

Yet to find a working emulator for the Vic or Dragon32 on the Amiga.

On the Amiga I emulate C64 (90%), a bit of NES/SNES (both 8%), Macintosh (1%), PC (1%).

On PC I emulate C64 (80% - mostly stuff which doesn't work on Amiga), NES, SNES (both 5%), Amiga (15% - just for fun if I don't have time to run my Amiga).

x86 PC's are for emulation, IMO:

So I tend to have a fiddle with emulators for a lot of systems...
...Classic Amiga & Acorn being top of the long list.

It's easy to download software and transfer it over to my real VIC-20, 64 and Amiga so I don't usually emulate them (unless I'm away from home). On the other hand, I frequently emulate consoles (mostly the SNES and N64) because even though I have real hardware, I have no way of using downloaded ROMs on it. The vast majority of the time I spend emulating is with MAME. Being able to emulate games I loved as a kid but had to go to the arcade to play adds an extra dimension of fun.

Not? What else is a 'Virtual machine' than an emulator?

the same really. A virtual machine emulates a complete computer. In that respect WinUAE can also be regarded as a virtual machine actually.

"VMUAE, the Amiga amigo that will never break down, unless the host OS does, which it likely will".

Maybe gklinger was referring to the fact that VMWare and Virtual PC don't emulate a different CPU architecture, but of course al the other aspects of an emulator are used.

Like my old master always told me :
"Your emulator may be as good as gold, but if the hosting OS is crap, it's bound to fail. So young one, set up your drivers carefully..."
