Pistorm & the A570 upgraded to the new 2.35 extended rom
With the release of the new 2.35 extended rom from CDTV Land which has now been optimised for the A570 CD-ROM drive, I was wondering if anyone has got it to work with the Pi-storm?
I've tried mine but no joy I know the TF536 works with the A570 once updated I was wondering if there is more configuration needed to allow the A570 to be seen with a Pi-Storm mine just remains on black screen if i try it Update: my Pi-Storm is running EMU68 Last edited by Timtheloon; 17 July 2023 at 20:14. |

PiStorm doesn't work with CDTV/A570 yet. The PiSTorm firmware doesn't support multimaster bus arbitration like a real 680x0 would and so doesn't work with the CDTV DMAC. You can put the jumper on the CDTV motherboard (J15) which turns it into A500 and it works but not in CDTV mode.

Hi @Alexh I'm talking about the A570 CD-ROM addon to the A500/+ not the CDTV but the A570 does have the DMAC so maybe this is the reason why.

Yes. Same thing. The A570 contains the CDTV DMAC which is a 680x0 bus master. The PiSTorm doesn't support bus arbitration yet. So it doesn't work with A570.
Work has been done to add bus arbitration to the PiStorm CPLD and the Mushashi emulator for use with Atari ST. But no work done on Emu68. I'll ask on the Pistorm Atari discord channel how much work it would take to bring it back to the main branch as a special CDTV build., I suspect they will have no enthusiasm to do this. While we're on the subject of interesting CDTV trivia:
There's an equivalent to this for A570 users without having to detach the drive from the A500. Simply dial the headphone volume knob on the A570 to the left until it clicks. This achieves the same thing as JP15 on the CD1000: it disconnects the CDTV OS ROMs. The hardware is all stil there, but none of the CDTV drivers/libs etc get initialized on boot. |

Unfortunately no-one has developed a PiSTorm adapter board which can also take the original 68000 (for backwards compatibility) so there is no way to go back to a 68000 without disassembling the A500. |
